Heavens, Mr Elf! How on earth did you manage to get a headcold at this time of year???? Not very clever of you! I hope the darn thing has gone by now. They're a misery in the heat.

As for Elves of varying sizes..... while that could be very, um, interesting, those gamer bods just can't help tampering with nature. There are some self evident truths; some clutched to the chests of Americains and the others relating to the wee folk. ;) While I'm sure there is a Lephrechaun in the bottom of my Smirnoff bottle, their elf cousins may be larger but still wee folk. Large elves is just ludicrous proposition! (Yourself excluded of course :D) Spread by Peter Jackson so he could use Australians in LOTR.

Mmmm. Hook turns, are they? Ooops. Still horrid and best avoided by moi. I remember Brighton Beach. I hired a bicycle and cycled down past there to Black Rock (I think that's the name) Was a very loooooooooong day but was super fit in those days....... And my cousin lived at Noble Park.

I loved shopping in the CBD down there, as well. Loved Georges. Is it still there?
The gear cost a bomb but was everlasting.

I solved my Christmas present problem for the adults by making fooooood. Stuff they like but wont make themselves. Kids stuff was dead easy.

Just got to get through the next 4 days dealing with stressed pre Chrissy travellers. Boxing day is a day in hell. People are usually mellowed a little after Boxing Day.

Oh, I had an interview today. Will be a while b4 I hear how it went.

Trisk,

I think I got the head cold from all that sweaty running around on those hot days, in and out of air con areas. I don't normally get colds easily but I also think I was a bit run down since I essentially hadn't stopped since I left work. I spent several full days doing lots of things in that heat. Feeling much better since mid week though and have slowed down long enough to get some rest. Still can't sleep past 6:30 am though, usually takes me a few weeks to get lazy enough to stay in bed longer.

Now whilst not an expert on elves I have discovered that that there are different casts of elf from the High Elf to the smaller Wood Elf. The Darkelf is a bit of a rascal and basically not much for authority or for those full of themselves. I hope you aren't confusing elves with fairies...whole different thing. Now did you really go the size thing...you women...and you reckon guys think of sex all the time...naughty girl :D Someone is in need of a nipple tweak

Not sure why a Leprechaun would be in vodka bottle unless he has an AK47 strapped to him. I know of worms in Tequila bottles, but that's mainly laziness in their bottling process. More cost effective to leave the worms in the bottles. I also know of goblins in beer and cider bottles, but that's about it.

You cycled from Brighton to Black Rock? Why? Catch the bus. However these days there is a thing called the Hell Ride which happens on Saturday mornings and involves rather aggressive bike riders taking over the road. It started as a fun thing but has now turned into a protest ride for all angry cyclists who think they should be allowed to own the road. They actually make a point of pissing off cars driving down there during that period and they don't stop for pedestrians either. They knocked down a man in his 70's using a cross walk a few years ago and then went on to blame him for crossing the road at the lights. Its got to the point now that the cops show up just to ensure things don't get out of hand. It only takes a few crazy fuckwits to turn something fun into a war.

Yep Georges is still in business, but there are lots more places to shop in the city these days. When I was in my 20's I used to go to city every weekend to shop or go to the movies since there wasn't much else around. I even remember Bourke St before the mall. The Block Arcade hasn't changed that much. The laneways have more coffee shops these days. I know a way of getting from Flinders St. station to Bourke St without getting wet on rainy days. They even do tours of the laneways these days. Best option is to catch a train into town. Easy place to walk around, no major hills well ok there is the one going up from Collins St, but that’s why we have trams.

As for the hook turns that nothing compared to freaking my friends out when I drive on the tram tracks. They still get a little nervous when I do that.

Good luck on the job! I'm looking at making a change myself next year. Need to confirm some figures first, but the change would be good for me. It would certainly scare the crap out of people.

The thought of driving in Sydney is enough to make me shudder violently and ask for a return ticket to home ASAP...;)

Whilst I will sing the praises of Melbourne as being the best place for food - I would be remiss if I didn't toss a few bouquets in the direction of some of the country towns I have stopped in.... for instance, one of the best Thai meals I have ever had was in Goulburn, Malmsbury bakery is a dieter's worst nightmare and the most delicious fisherman's basket was sampled in a remote little village somewhere in the Nullabor...

Hey Austral,

Yep I'm with you. I did that trip once just to do it. I would prefer to fly. I even went via the so called coast road which is the long way, only to discover I was driving through forest most of the time. I came back via the Newell the much shorter option. I even drove from Sydney to Brisbane one year for a wedding. So many speed cameras in NSW then crossing the boarder, there was nothing. I even got followed by a cop in a small town just to see if I would stay within the speed limit. I ain't dong that drive again.

Have to agree on the country bakeries. The one in Beechworth is rather famous for its pies and cakes. Still on the topic of food, the best Ploughman's Lunch I had was in the UK in York, wow was that platter massive. The way I used to judge a pub is by its fisherman's basket. I don't order it in pubs in town anymore since they got skimpy on the quantities.

Farewell, my friends!
:D

yeah that's right the end of world is today...on the plus side I won't have to pay off my credit card...on the down side...I'll never get to have sex with all those women I wanted to...then again that won't fucking happen anyway

I won't be able to finish off all that booze I have or was given...on the positive side world poverty and hunger will end today...

Now the Mayans did get one thing right...they are extinct...so I guess that bit has come true....I saw that a few people are in their bunkers in double bunks, now given the fact the world is going to end...I'm not sure how a double bunk bed in a hole in the ground is going to save you since the end of the world means nothing will exist afterwards so unless you are on a space ship launching today, you ain't got a way out. So lets all get pissed and fondle each other.

Either that or get out the white robes and get your ticket ready for the Pearly Gates...just hope St. Peter isn't on holidays...or may be his alias Simon is on the gates...not to be confused with the real Simon...boy he must feel ripped off..I mean who remembers that dude...and for those without sandles it isn't too late, the shops are still open and the sales are on too...bonus

Well its the endoftheworld + 2 days....wrote to Santa for a Christmas Ho...wonder if he takes Visa....speaking of which .... I'll have to pay of those credit card expenses now....damn those Mayans.

Hope all your Christmas days are filled with Joy...or you could try her sister I hear she is up for anything.

Hot Hot day in Melbourne town, I really feel for those dressed up in all those Santa costumes on a day like this...wouldn't want to see in the papers that Santa was admitted to hospital with heat stoke.

This family time is really keeping me busy this year. Thankfully it only happens once a year..... I ain't getting any younger...the Darkelf taxi service is getting a real workout this year.

Hey there, Mr Elf! :D

Hope you're resting up now and fighting off that cold. We all need to get fit to get through Chrissy day!

An intrinsic knowedge of all things 'wee folk' is passed through the celt blood to each generation. Great insight is also to be found in the depths of a Glennfiddich bottle. :D The Guiness also provides great meditative powers but only after the second rapture of 'Ahhhhhhhh's. Personnally, I find the deepest inspiration in the cool smoothness of a Baileys on ice. :cathappy:

The cycling to Black Rock can be blamed on the enthusiasm of youth and a 'coz it was there' attitude at the time. It was a lovely day, from memory. And there was this path most of the way.

I do remember some press about that ride and how it was taken over by malcontents. What a pity.

I often wonder what would have happened to our cities if people hadn't mobilised to stop the bulldozers and wrecking balls of the 60s and later.
Everything would have looked so different and these tourist favourites just wouldn't exit. They were accused of being such heinous hippies at the time. I love Little Collins St and the plan was for it to be leveled, as well. There was a huge tussle over that one.

Yeah, you and taxi drivers like to shake up outsiders on the tram tracks! ;)

My sweet, passionate friend is an alternative lifestyle sort of person. She's studied with indigenous peoples all over the globe. Her take on 21/12 through the Quero and Hopi (I think) is that the date heralds a time of change, not on a day but over time. She's very into it and I worry about her, if things don't live up to her expectations. :( For me just getting a decent job near home with leave entitlements would be a great change!!! Good uck with your quest, as well. :rose:

Good Morning all!

Today and tomorrow are shaping up to be hell on skates, so...............

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I hope Santa is very generous to all!!!!

Lots of love,
Jules :heart::rose::kiss:

Heya everyone :)

Well, despite myself, the Xmas spirit has infected me somewhat.... as in, I am partaking of a particularly nice bourbon already
Everything is ready here for the day, and all major house and yardwork has been done.
Not much to do now but wait for the day itself!

(Couldn't be bothered to type it all again.)

I could do without the mainlander tourists clogging the roads with their expensive RV's and slow-moving caravans, but all in all the roads haven't been too congested.

A warm day today and again tomorrow (30degC), but some rain forecast so it will cool down quickly. Chrissy day should be around 24.

Wishing everyone here a safe and happy Christmas/New Year, and a better 2013 :rose:

Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope you had a great day with the kids good looking Frisky

Hope yours was rockin, Sunshine! :D

The time with the out-laws was great. Nice to catch up. And the cherubs were a hoot, as usual. :)

Belated Happy Xmas here too. :) It was a good one - I did achieve a few fitness goals among the usual Xmas events.

I know I'm early but tomorrow is fully booked, sooooo.....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I hope your 2013 is happy, healthy and spanking, shiny bright.:rose:

Good on you! I'm afraid my self discipline flew out the window as soon as i unwrapped chocolate. Need to work on that...........

Chocolate! :D Excuses can be made for that. I have mine sprinkled over the coffee in the morning.

Unfortunately doing over 200km on a bicycle in a couple of days makes my legs feel pretty weak. And a few little twitching sensations too. That was hard work. I wanted to go out again today but the legs said no.

I hope they'll be good tomorrow - I want to do another 100km if I can.

Last day of 2012.....
I spent the day travelling to and from the funeral of a friend.
Wonderful service - very much his style (he had time to help plan before passing).
Spent the day sad, then laughing, then reminiscing......
Home now, on my own (really don't want anyone around me right now, so this is perfect).
At midnight I will raise a glass of our friends favourite beer :)

I want to wish all the aussies here a wonderful start to the New Year, and all the very best for the remainder..... :rose:

Thanks for the welcome back.

It is beyond hot here today. I don't feel like heading out for NYE; I just want to stay in, enjoy a scotch or three and watch a movie.

New Year's Resolution - get fit again lol.

Hey Trisk :rose:

Happy New Year  oh yes and a nipple tweak...they don't have a smilie for that...really they need new stuff.

Hope your Christmas was good and of course the normal busy family time which is so nice after its over. I've been on holidays now for 3 weeks and haven't got any of my own stuff done. Thankfully all the visiting and lunches and crazy running around is over. I reckon I did about 800kms just drinving around for family activities. Lots of trips across the city.

My cold was all gone last week, I really didn't have time for it to linger longer. However it is replaced with a couple of sore muscles from rehanging a door and also some bleeding. Tricky damn door it was to put back. Upside is I now have a new fridge all clean and with a god light. Damn thing is so bright. Been shopping for myself this time and got some really good bargains for clothes, sheets and a new shaver. I saved about $400 all up. I didn't go on Boxing Day though, I can't stand that crap. Seen enough of crowds for a while.

Next task is to get a ring made. Wanted to do it a few years ago but kept getting busy with other stuff. Got a really nice ring in NZ for my last birthday so I thought this birthday coming up it was time to get this task done.

Having a couple of friends come down to Melbourne town later this month. One is coming for the tennis the other for the shopping...and of course to see me, but mainly for the shopping.

We had one person at work who is really into alternative stuff. She was sick a lot and wouldn't go to regular GP. Also a complete vegen and into the hippie thing due to her folks I believe. Very strong views on that stuff. To each their own just don't try to shove that down my throat was my response.

This year will be a year of change but that largely depends on me. I'm not one to let the world dictate to me. You want something you need to get off your arse and get it. Have lots of people tell me I'm lucky...well funny how making the hard decisions makes me more lucky...I always laugh at that.

Hope you have an enjoyable start to the year and it at leat remains that way for a little while longer. It will get busy enough soon.

Oh and I make my own version of Baileys, it wasn't on purpose but it turned out that way. Got a recipe from a lady I used to work with but I didn't have some of the ingredients so I did my own thing and come up with a completely different drink which became a big hit. One of those nice accidents.
