Even though I have some health problems we have to deal with I've never been happier, more cared about or more loved.

BANDIT:heart: tells me she feels the same way & she must because no one would hang around doing all she deals with.

Whats your plans for today?

We have dialysis today so was looking forward to catching the fireworks at a nearby park, they have a great day down there with food stalls, games, rides, entertainment in a very friendly atmosphere right on the water with a secure swimming area, the day is finished off with a fantastic fireworks display but all this wet weather might have a lot more people trying to keep dry.

Mommy's Balloons

Little Johnny is taking a shower with his mother and says, "Mom, what are those things on your chest!?" Unsure of how to reply, she tells Johnny to ask his dad at breakfast tomorrow, quite certain the matter would be forgotten.

Johnny didn't forget. The following morning he asked his father the same question. His father, always quick with the answers, says, "Why Johnny, those are balloons. When your mommy dies, we can blow them up and she'll float to heaven." Johnny thinks that's neat and asks no more questions.

A few weeks later, Johnnys' dad comes home from work a few hours early. Johnny runs out of the house crying hysterically, "Daddy! Daddy! Mommy's dying!!" His father says, "Calm down son! Why do you think Mommy's dying?" "Uncle Harry is blowing up Mommys' balloons and she's screaming, "Oh God, I'm coming!"
 
Mr Gil, love the new av photo, may I suggest one thing though? The Aboriginal Flag is upside down...unless you meant to express us being in distress?

Enjoy your public holiday A/all. Hope you are faring better in the weather stakes than we are in soggy Brisvegas. I swear my feet are becoming more webbed...my Mother says I have "Dutch feet"....webbing between the toes from centuries of ancestors on Father's side wading through the water in Holland. How cruel.....

I am proudly flying the flag today - it's great to be a citizen of this awesome country :D
(actually, I have the flag flying every day of the year here. How many others fly a flag all year?)
I became a citizen in 1976, and although I was only 8yrs old, I can still remember every detail of the ceremony.
Today is traditionally the day when we sit down and each state one thing that makes us uniquely Aussie in my house. It will be interesting to see what the kids come up with this year.

Also, we will not be having lamb this year.
Since I knocked off Rib and Loin (our hand-reared orphan lambs) we've overdosed on lamb!
I still have about 30 packs in the freezer.
Instead, we are having grilled chilli wings, with spiced rice and 5-herb salad, followed by my famous profiterole cake (I make the profiteroles and then layer them into a chocolate cake - the kidleys love it!)

Afternoon all,

Well its a new year but after only a couple of days back at work, it feels like last year. Walked right into meeting after meeting after meeting, all three days. And it has been so hot down in Melbourne since I got back from NZ last week. Walked out of the airport into hot northerly winds and high humidity, oh yay!!

The heat hasn't backed off much since then, got a couple of cooler days late last week, but we went back to hot temps again. Very hot for those sitting at the tennis last week and this.

Not a good Christmas and New Year for me, got rather sick and nearly had to cancel the trip to NZ, but came good a couple of days before the flight. They seem to be really cracking down on people who are sick getting on planes these days or they may not let you back into the country.

Found NZ rather expensive compared to 5 years ago. Petrol was anywhere from $2.09 to $2.16 a litre. Even converting that back to our dollar, it is expensive. Thankfully they don't have a big country to drive around. Saw some amazing scenery on the south east cost of the south island and through Arthur's Pass. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip and came home with some self gifting.

I also see they are now using cattle shutes at customs. All automatic. Not sure why they need customs officers, they don't even stamp passports anymore.

Hope everyone has a relaxing Aussie Day..... and watching the cricket or a having a cold one. For those in Brisvegas, you may need a snorkel and flippers to get to the BBQ. You guys could bottle some of that water and send it around the country.

I see a few new av's. Looking good especially Ms Moon and WQ, what can I say its a guy thing. Nice Aussie symbols from Trisk and Gil. I may be inspired to change mine.
 
Hi elfy :) I just got back from NZ myself a week ago after a week in the North Island (up Hamilton way) visiting my new grandson. Didn't get sick before I went, rather 2 days after I got home I developed a scratchy throat which progressed into a summer cold. Getting better now but slowly.

I did notice the expensive petrol :eek: I saw it as much as $2.49/litre. Aussie dollar is worth about $1.30NZ. I got some tobacco and bourbon for my daughter's partner at the duty free and that was about $200NZ. God knows what it would have cost with all the tax on it!

Hey Bandit, big :kiss: for the new year.

I didn't go to the North Island this time, except for Auckland. I also bought some duty free in the form of a bottle of 21yr old sinlge malt scotch. I was eyeing off the 40yr old bottle, but at $3,799 it was a bit pricey, however cheaper in NZ dollars than here. I priced it when I got back home and it was $3,800. You could go to Hawaii on that money for a week. Also got myself another piece of NZ jade in the form of a ring and it was a perfect fit. Went to Devonport and bought some chocs in that little shop off the main street and got some fudge in that Remarkable Sweet Shop in Queenstown, amazing flavours.

I seem to notice more Japanese people working in NZ this time around. I found them in most of the cities I visited. Dunedin was a surprise. I liked it. Stayed down at St. Clair right on the esplanade. Rather decedant of me, but it was my 50th so why not. I may have to rethink my hotel choices in the future. could really get used to the more expensive places. Really had a good trip. The driving was good and the scenery, was execellent. Saw a lot of NZ I hadn't seen before. I need to go back some time soon. One thing that I didn't like was walking up those damn hills back to hotels, boy that got old really fast. I don't how the ladies walk up those steep streets in heels. I was in runners and I was struggling.

Congrats on the anniversary. I quickly saw that on a post. Hopefully I will be back on Lit more often. Well I guess until the year really gets busy, then who knows.

Very sorry I didn't welcome you to Dunedin! You must've been here when the great weather was in Otago rather than "up north" where we were! You chose an excellent spot to stay ... stunning (on any sort of day).

Don't run a flag all year. Nowhere to put BUT decked out the bakery this am!! Boss came in and said 'why the flags?' WTF! Got a whole stash of Aussie flag balloons and gave them to the kids. :D:D Wore an Aussie flag apron. Was a good day EVERYONE was cheerful.

Dark Elf thought you were silent for too long! :cool: Good that you recovered in time for your trip, tho. I have always wanted to go to NZ but somehow it's always been put off. Will get there eventually. Want to slip into a hot spring or three. :devil::devil:

Gil and Bandit, I hope you have a great time at the fireworks. We really need a good soak atm. maybe you can send some of it down here???

Well, the oldest cherub, and most esteemed daughter, has celebrated Aust Day by falling from a flying fox and breaking her ankle! :eek::( Will do very early shift tomorrow and then spend the rest of the day at the hospital. She needs a plate put in there. Won't forget this Aust Day for a while! :rolleyes:
