I was overseas for one of the Olympic Games .... we tried to find out how the Australians were doing by watching the local telecasts .... not a hope!!!
The broadcasters there were as parochial as ours are .... the worst part was it was an Olympics being held in the US and the chances of seeing anything other than US victories was so far from the possible, well ....
Having been involved in the teaching of both swimming and gymnastics... and played hockey in my youth, I can assure you there is nothing easy about top level competition in any sport. What we could all appreciate is a little more balance by the media in its coverage and reporting of events.
It would seem that the requirement for prime time over the past few days was if the PM was there then the cameras had to be..... I agree it would be nice to see some of the less "popular" sports represented in the coverage but the sport isn't really what is driving the telecast ... its the advertising dollar and we all know that.
