I won't admit to remembering him, but I certainly do remember the tales of his antics....when I was researching the Redex Trials, his name came up often..,

Yes, he'd liven up his trips by chucking a lit stick of jelly out of the window, sometimes in a town's main street.
Got locked up for it on the odd occasion too, I recall hearing.

Can't do that sort of thing these days - the Redex Trails, I mean, not the jelly, you'll recall that they did a re-enactment some years later and it was all a bit flast.

The Variety Club bashes are probably the closest thing - in spirit, at least - to the old Redexes, but they aren't what they uised to be either nowadays.

Grump, grump

Was he in the 55 redex trial, if so i got him on vid.

Jack won the '54 REDeX ( to give it the correct spelling)in a '48 Ford: Ken Tubman won the '53 in a Peugeot and Peugeots won again in '55 (the last REDeX) but were relegated when the Volkswagen protest was upheld.

In 1956 the first of the Ampol Trials was held, Peugeot won that with the new 403s

Jack was in his element . . .

I got the 55 on vid and get it out every now and then. is fun to watch the old cars belting around through the bush.

And the world is the poorer for it. PC kills much fun and games.

Of course, we also didn't have TV or computers, people used to get out and make their fun and enjoy themselves.
