What happens when you lay back is the sinus drains down the throat instead of out the nose.

it would be lovely to be able to kiss - unfortunately though, i need my mouth to breathe at the moment
sinus = nil ; mouth = 1

mind you, i've been up and awake since i almost choked on my bodily fluids at 1 am this morning.
and i'm doing quite well compared to my poor kidley beans

What happens then is you have an automatic reflex to swllow this so it goes into the stomach and not the lungs.

Thats why when you wake up you don't have a fully blocked/runny nose for the first 10 mins or so.
