Wombats day at the airport
As most of you know i recently attended the 2005 G&G. on my last day i volunteered to give bertrande a lift to the airport and keep her company whilst she waited for her plane. i dropped her at the departure lounge to check in and went to park the hot rod i'd hired for the day. ok it was a hyundai and not much better than a skateboard but it did the job. I parked in the short term car park and followed bertrande thru the metal detector-which i set off. " go thru again please sir" said the security man. i did and this time nothing-stupid machine. had a drink and chat with bertrande and after she left is where my troubles began. on my way back to the car I got a text from an old member of this thread who i hadn't chatted to for a while so I called her back. I was chatting away while i went to the car-then remembered i had to pay for parking so back to the machine for that, still chatting away merrily. i paid ($12 for just over an hour) and went back to the car, got in and drove to where i thought the exit was. it wasn't. found it about 5 minutes later (still on the phone) and went to grab my ticket to get out. my ticket??? FUCK-left it in the damn machine! parked the car and sprinted up 3 floors to the machine i'd paid at. no sign of it-guess someone had cheap parking for the day! looked for the reciept but that was gone too.
about this time i decided i'd chatted long enough so i hung up. i was getting a little concerned-what do i do now? i weighed up the idea of waiting till someone else was going thru and charging through after them before the boom came back down, but knowing the accelaration rate of the hyundai ( about the same as a slug on speed) i decided it was a bad idea. A sign said if you had lost your ticket to follow the blue line on the floor to the manned exit on level 3 (isn't that where i started?) where i would have a minimum charge of $39. More swearing but having no choice off i went. this blue line seemed to go forever-i think i toured the entire car park following the damn thing. finally got there and lucked out-the attendant believed my story ( i looked up at her with my big brown eyes and pleaded patheticly) and let me out without paying the $39. I dont think i have ever spent nearly an hour and a half getting out of a car park before.
what to do now? well by the time i'd done all that i only had an hour before i had to check in myself-i would have done better to return the car and save the parking fee!
so i went and filled the tank and returned the rocket. checked myself and my bag in and went thru the metal detector (after removing my phone, wallet, belt, jacket and keys) holding my pants up (i really need that belt). my back pack and everything i'd taken off cane thru after me and there were no problems.
One thing I had to get was some krispy kreme donuts-i'd heard good things about them but we dont have any in melbourne so nows my chance to sample them. so i bought a box of a dozen to take home. had to rearrange my back pack to get the box in-and when i did so i found a couple of items i'd forgotten about-a screwdriver and a box of very sharp 2" screws. how the hell did these get thru the xray machine? i had watched a poor lady getting a little tool(no idea what) made from very thin wire confiscated, yet i'd managed to take a far more lethal screwdriver through. these are the men and women protecting us.
that was about it except i gripped my plastic cup of orange juice a little hard on my way home and split it right down the side-was a little embarrassing. I also managed to squash half the donuts! I blame the weekend of debauchery for my total stupidity on monday afternoon!

(my last big bleed was just before going to sydney and i was still in some pain while there - which explains my demure and ladylike demeanor this year

We are both sorry to hear this & did note how quite you have been, can you take iron tabs? when i was anaemic I had a blood transfusion & then lots of iron tabs which leveled me out.
