And instead of the hot water bottle, have you tried using a wheat sack? They much better and safer... no burns. Just ask someone to sew a square of fabric... flanelette is good, and fill it with wheat. Sew channels down it to keep the wheat from moving over to one side. Then just heat the sack in the microwave for about 2 minutes... They reall are good.
