Hey Gil . . . congratulations on abstaining from tobacco for two months!!

What's this about heading back to hospital?? You off chasing nurses agin?? ;) . . . an' here's me thinking that you had your hands full with bandit . . . ;) :p

He's having a fistula done in his arm for haemodialysis, they join a vein and artery together to hook him to the machine with needles. Hopefully only an overnight with dialysis next morning and home by lunchtime :)

The fistulas take 6-8 weeks to heal before they can be used, so he'll have the vascath in his chest for a while yet. Then we both get to be trained to use the haemo machine at home, though it'll be me who gets to play with the needles.....

P.S. He's allowed to chase nurses........as long as he brings them home for me ;)

Yep. The longer she stalls the harder it'll be. Someone needs to run over to her house and throw out the fags.

I've hidden them so you can't find them so ner ner ner ner :nana: :nana:

I'm not stalling at all! I have to pysche myself into it and the accepted method these days is to get your head ready over about 14 days and start cutting down and thinking hard about every cigarette so that when D day comes you are almost there already and its so much more likely to be successful - and I really want to do it!!!!

Uhmmm Breathe . . . why wait another 14 days to give up smoking??
Why noy do it now, immediately, tonight?? ;)

Lung cancer is such a cruel way to die . . . choking on your own body fluids ;)

So long as you quit, the method doesn't really matter :). Good luck ;).

Thanks Oz :) I'll just steer clear of Lit (and Yahoo) for a little while when I do - I KNOW how grumpy I get when I first quit :(

No worries. Everyone's the same when they try.... should've seen my old man. Unfortunately he couldn't give them up, though.

Isn't that incredible! The money is the second major factor for giving up - the first was the nasty scare I had recently and my family history for nasty things growing inside them, lots of other things too but the money is a real 'in your face' advantage isn't it! Thanks for your support people :)

I did it for 2 years almost to the day and then I moved to Alice to be with the person I met online - he was a heavy smoker as was all the people he employed - so it was all around me and I caved in one day - its just that ONE cigarette :(

Yeah . . . and that doesn't include the choking feeling that happens when the airway is occluded by a cancerous lump . . . the choking effect of flem in your throat that you cannot clear and the overwhelming fear of drowning as you lose control of your ability to breathe . . . painful!!!

Then combine that with the starvation caused by disinterest in eating because it is just too difficult to swallow is a painful way to lose weight. mUch better to follow the Batty Weight Loss programme or Huggles Huge Weight Loss Guide. ;)

<OK . . . It is bleak . . . but no apologies . . . my mother is experiencing this at present and from the outside it is not pretty, so you can only imagine how it feels on the inside>

Geez, Breathe. I know you're stronger than that :p.

You'll give it up this time for good, though, I'm sure.

Well, it is an addiction just like alcohol ;)

AS they say in AA . . . a reformed alcoholic is just one drink away from being an alcoholic ;)

It is no different for smokers. :)

Yes in all seriousness I have a friend who has just got the fantastic news that they will operate on her throat in 4 weeks - possible tracheatomy to boot. And she gave up smoking about 10 years ago :( Just not fair sometimes.....

Gil is still craving cigarettes and he's been quit for 2 months. Especially now he is waiting for the surgery  But we've invested too much in the quitting to give it away now so on with the show :nana:
