Afternoon all,

Had to go across the city yesterday and initially couldn't work out why there was so much traffic apart from Albert Park Lake being closed off due to the Grand Prix. Then realised it was a public holiday on Monday. Took an extra 30 mins each way, just sitting in traffic for most of it.

All that rain on Wed and Thurs this week was still impacting certain parts of the city with partially flooded streets. Came across a number of road cones being deployed to close flooded lanes.

Went shopping on Thurs and it was still rather humid even with lower temps. Had a first hand look at the empty shelves in the supermarket for certain goods. Several shoppers were just pissed off at not being able to get their usual items. Apart from toilet paper there were empty shelves for pasta, olive oil, certain canned goods, Glen 20. I don't get the panic buying of pasta and olive oil. The nonnas must be stocking up. All of which is just crazy stuff. Now if you need that much toilet paper for a 2 week quarantine then you have far bigger issues than the coronavirus, you need to see a gastro specialist.

Saw one couple being interviewed about the stocking up. The husband looked like he was being held hostage and coming to the realisation he'd married a nut job.

So Smoko still can't get the story straight about the sports rort thing which it now seems he instructed the sports minister's office to make further changes, but he also lied about his paster being refused entry to the White House. His lies keep catching up with him. He will want this year to go quickly and looks like a leader that won't last till the next election as he will be toxic for his party. Trust is his weakness.

Hope to finish the painting of the two external doors this week now that we are due for some dry days in a row. Now that I'm retired I try not to do any work on weekends. Which is the reverse of what it was when I had a job.

Keeping an eye on the scotch stocks. I doubt there will be a run on that stuff cause it costs a heck of a lot more than toilet paper. But scotch does have medicinal purposes and it's a disinfectant, so two ticks.

Back from little trip. Three days and a bit more than a thousand k's.

Now off to a favourite fishing spot with the wifey and the boat for a dirty (fingers crossed) weekend.

Watched the toilet paper aisle drama at kick-off this morning at Woolies. The usual suspects but it was strategic. One lot into the aisle from the top end but block it across about 3m in. The other mob come in from the other end and load up a procession of trolley wielding people.
Enter a blonde haired lady of some muscular physique who pushes past the blockage and yells at people to stand in the icecream aisle one side and tampon aisle the other and starts throwing packs over the top of the shelves. Woolies staff went nuts at her but it was a great show. Picked up my milk and steaks for the BBQ and got a second round of the show at the checkouts with people restricted to one pack not two. Cudos to the staff for handing out the confiscated excess to the oldies around the store.
Time to put this whole shit show to bed and just put the semi trailer full of them into the carpark with a cash register. Keep rolling semis in until it floods the market at one each and kills off the viscious cycle. The country will be going nowhere if we are preoccupied with essentials before anything major has happened.

Our friends are wondering why we haven't cancelled our Royal Caribbean cruise out of Sydney... I mean almost 70 people drowned at our beaches this summer... compared to a 5 elderly Aussies who have died of the virus.

Nope the virus won't be killing me, I don't catch colds and flu easily, besides I still have an unopened bottle of scotch so can't die just yet.

Have to go to the GP this month to get more scripts so will see what the situation is in that environment. They don't normally leave scripts for pick up only so I wonder if the coronavirus has changed that practice. Then again probably not as it's dollars first.

Afternoon all,

Just finished the first stage of painting the two external doors so glad to get some dry days even if it's a bit on the cool side. Notice it more with the doors open waiting for paint to dry.

Didn't see all of the Women's T20 final but good to see the Aussies win and they managed to regroup. The better team on the day. They don't get much of a rest as they are off OS by the end of the week.

Had more dramas with the shower in the first bathroom. Seems it's a bigger issue than I can permanently resolve but found a fix for now. It's an old house with old pipes. Reluctant to pay lots of money on a plumber since I'm going to sell the place. Reminds me of when I sold my last property when the hot water system gave up just before settlement. I was so pissed off.

Hope the week is good for you. Have a few things to do this week besides the painting. It's noticeable that we have less light in the mornings. The fact that we are still on daylight savings seems just silly.

Afternoon all,

Just passing thru killing time waiting for paint to dry. Would you believe it, that today has been the coldest morning in Melbourne for the year thus far. Not a good time to start painting. Anything below 15 and the paint takes longer to dry which means you have to wait longer to do the next coat. Plus wet paint that doesn't dry properly can cause mold even with a mold inhibitor.

A tip for anyone contemplating doing DYI painting. If you want your brushes to last longer, soak the bristles in the washup (either water or turps) for a couple of days then get some rags and dry off the excess liquid. Wrap your brushes in a rag, old socks are ideal, and store them away. Even the cheap brushes will last you several years. No need to buy new brushes every time.

Saw some of Smoko's speech this morning whilst having my morning coffee. He sounded a bit like a Labor PM telling business to look after their employees who get the virus by using their reserves in their budgets. Obviously harder for small business which hires lots of casuals. The fact that 50% of all jobs in the workforce are not permanent jobs really impacts society at times like these. People who live from one pay to the next really can't afford to be in quarantine for 2-3 weeks. They need some income to buy groceries and pay bills since they don't get sick leave. It has the potential to push more people into using charity food centres. I wouldn't be surprised to see people getting laid off who are casual that get the virus. It's only a matter of time. What would be interesting is if someone gets fired for just having a cold.

Yes I agree there are some people who prefer casual work because of their life status but others who can't get anything else but casual because of the type of work and further education is not an option. I have an older brother who was made redundant and then did security work for a number of years. He couldn't get anything else than casual work but he was working 6 days a week on night shift. He was not a young man at the time. The first company he worked for wasn't offering anything else but casual, same for the other company he worked for. It was a case of "do you want a job or not". As for Centrelink they don't care about matching your skills to a job, any job will do so long as you have a job and they can get you of their books. As we all know the term "job" is not equal. You only have to work a few hours a week to be counted in the employment stats. Without job security people won't spend dollars which means the entire economy is impacted. The longer this virus goes the longer our economy will be impacted which knocks on to things like people's super. Once things like Franking Credits are impacted the older generation will get pissed off with the govt.

I've never been without a job and my education allowed me to gain better jobs as my time in the workforce progressed. But not every one has that option and we who can improve our job prospects can tend to not understand why others cannot improve their lot in life.

I not sure putting your immunity to viruses in your resume would get you further up the list of preferred candidates. I've sat on a lot of interview panels, more than I care to remember, and I've never had a selection criteria related to the person's immunity system.

If you were to be denied employment because you had a tendency to get colds and flu the employer would find themselves in court. We aren't in the Dark Ages are we? So if women have to take time off work for period pain should they be sacked because they aren't being productive? How far do we take that type of thinking? If that is where we go, well lets cut to the case and just leave sick people on the side of the road and let nature take its course. Kinda like the debate about people bitching that their taxes are being used to fund the health system for sick people who don't pay as much tax as them. Well I'm not a smoker so I could argue that why should my contribution to the Medicare Levy and taxes be used to fund the health care of people with lung cancer due to smoking. It's a nonsensical argument. People get sick and they need to be taken care of regardless of their situation.

Morning all,

Well just heard the CHO have to tell people that there is no need to get tested for COVID-19 if you haven't travelled or come into contact with people who have or only have a cold.

How fucking dumb are people? Seriously folks, what is all the panic about? I used a tissue to blow my nose this morning, doesn't mean I have to get tested for any virus.

Actually I don't understand why Aussies are so damn worried about having to quarantine for 2 weeks. Just chill out on the couch for 2 weeks, watch TV or play video games and eat pizza, or read a book or just clean stuff if that's your thing.

I'm surprised more school kids aren't coughing on each other trying to get 2 weeks off school.

Kid 1: "Dude I've got corona, found this in the recycling"
Kid 2: "That a beer dufus."


Having an easy day today just checking emails and weather forecasts. Some warmer weather headed to Melbourne over the next couple of days. Now that I've painted the two external doors I can get out in the garden. Have to put a handle back on one of the doors. Now looking around the house to see what else might need a coat of paint to freshen it up. Should be warm enough to do that for a few more weeks. Have noticed that this Summer hasn't had as many hot days compared to last year. Was a cooler than normal Feb here in Melbourne town. Thus far this month it has been on the cooler side.

Was up very early this morning which is annoying cause I don't need to be anywhere. Then again it was a warm night.

Lots of hysteria going on in Melbourne this morning about the Grand Prix. Social media is moving faster than the officials. Apparently the F1 bosses previously decided that if one team has to pull out due to illness then the respective race will be cancelled.

Our Premier has just announced that no spectators will be allowed to attend the Grand Prix. Will be interesting to see if the other Premiers of NSW and QLD follow his lead for the NRL. It seems more likely now that the AFL season will go ahead without spectators.

Went to the GP yesterday for some more scripts, so was curious to see if anyone was wearing masks and nobody was. So no panic in that environment. Also went to the bank, supermarket and to the post office yesterday. Only the staff at the post office were wearing masks which I found rather odd. Also the masks they were wearing were not the proper ones so there was no point them wearing those masks.

Saw once again that there was no loo paper on the shelves at my local supermarket. Don't need any for a while. A tip that I did hear from one of the Woollies staff was that they get new deliveries at 7am everyday so get there first thing in the morning if you want some.

If I was one of those people relying on the govt to get that stimulus money, I wouldn't hold my breath. Given the clusterfuck of the bushfire money rollout and now their lack of leadership on the coronavirus why would you trust them to get anything done properly. Leaving the coronavirus response up to individual states is a nonsense. They are still putting money ahead of people's health. Given the lack of record keeping by Centrelink you can bet that money will go to dead people. The LNP was quick to criticise the Labor govt the last time stimulus money was sent to dead people. So will be interesting to see how the govt reacts when the same thing happens to them.

Finished off season 6 of Game of Thrones. No rush for me to purchase the next season. Thought there was more than 8 seasons, not sure where I got that from. I know people have said that season 7 sucks but skipping a season would leave gaps in the story.

Rain on the way to Melbourne town and possibly a thunderstorm, so at least people who would of attended the Grand Prix won't get wet. I'm sure the people living around Albert Park would be thankful for a less noisy weekend.

Rump has just show once again he is a dumbfuck. Can't even get his speech right that was supposed to calm people's fears. Rump must also be panicking about having to face Biden at the election.

Yep. There were questions being asked over here in the west about what we were doing about domestic quarantine. That graduated to temperature control points at points of entry, like they have done in HK and Singapore for the past 18 years at the airports. None. Bizarre really, you could pick up the odd person and then advise those around them immediately rather than days later.
Moot point really, but the aim is to spread the spread over a longer period and not overwhelm the health system like Italy, so surely every small thing help that end of delaying it for most.
