Aussies! Check in here!

Been a while since I ventured back in here, but I thought it was time to catch up.

I'll second Bitesback's comment about cold hands on warm boobs!

I prefer to keep my blood, but they keep making requests for it lately (they haven't decided what's wrong with me, but seem fairly confident that it won't kill me, so it's just a guessing game until they figure it out). It doesn't help if they want a donation for scientific research early in the morning - my veins go into hiding and don't want to reappear!

As for Kanye and the shark? I'm dismayed that the question even needs to be asked. One is misunderstood and has an infamous reputation - and the other married a Kardashian. Save the shark!

Unprecedented flooding here in Launy, Tas today!
Several suburbs in my town have been evacuated and there is water blocking most of the major roads throughout the state.
Luckily, every member of my family lives on higher ground, so we're all fine (although neither of my sons will be able to get to work tomorrow.)

So far, the new levy bank/gate system that Launceston Council put in is holding, so the main central Launy shopping and banking precinct is ok. We'll see what happens as the waters rise - they haven't peaked yet!

Funfunfun!

Watching, from China, the news and seeing the pictures of the carnage in and round Sydney.
And the sad news of people being killed in Tassie.

Another huge cleanup to do. Aussies have really copped it this year.

Hope all the members in the East Coast are safe! We are having nasty rain here in Western Australia currently but besides that no issues. Hope you are all good!

hiya, WQ. i'll be in Freo in August. gonna meet some of the old KHS crowd!

got one of them coming over here in july, too.

s'gonna be mental! :D

Your cold hands on warm boobs! Not sure that would be particularly welcome. But glad you are finding a way to still feel young.

Yes, every citizen 18 years old and over is required to vote in State and Federal elections. It's only council elections where you may be excused past 75 years of age. The way things are going, the older retirees should be wanting to make sure they get their say over superannuation rules, pensions, Medicare rebates and the pbs.

I had a laugh last week when Prime Minister Turnbull, in campaign mode with assorted media, jumped on a train in Sydney to be among the people only to have one lady ask who he was! That made for an awkward journey.

As for Kanye or the shark? The shark...Sharks are important in the ocean Eco system, Kayne is of no importance.

Well my hands were only cold on the back, the palms are always warm, haven't had any complaints thus far :D

At this stage in my life staying young isn't a goal. Waiting to take advantage of the old age thing although given the way things are going old age will be a thing of the past cause people will be working till they die. Which means we won't have achieved much since the industrial revolution except for the age at which people die off whilst still working.

When people get past 65 they become invisible to the general public so doesn't matter much what they think or want, nobody really listens or cares. Plus they aren't active on social media ergo they don't exist.

May be we could run a drum line around Hollywood and catch some of those unwanted species.

Well you can't expect much from Malcolm mixing with the people in the street he is used to the upper end of town. Doubt he owns a met card to get on the train although he would be used to having a driver. He also made the mistaken assumption that getting on public transport converts to a forum where people engage with others. Weren't many people in the carriage either. Must have been travelling in pensioner hours.

Hey WQ,

Glad to hear you were safe from the flooding. I know you said previously you guys needed rain but obviously not all at once. Have looked at the media coverage of the area around Launceston. Certainly is a lot of water still in the area. I remember going to the Cataract Gorge many many years ago and was surprised to see how high the water got to in these floods. That's a bloody high bridge. It's amazing how more people didn't die in these floods.

Not sure how things are there now but I saw on the news this morning that the peak has been reached but the two big river levels are still high and moving quickly. Not sure how the dams faired, hopefully they are close to full now.

Even though we did get rain here in Melbourne and are still getting rain at times, it's from a different system plus thankfully due to our location we aren't impacted much by major coastal weather systems.

new to Lit browsing around and finally found some Aussie's

Welcome flutterbee, don't be shy just post stuff for people to get to know you better, just make sure you bring cold beer and since nobody is driving..keep the light stuff at home or give it to the dog.

Hi, darkelf! How are you doing today?

Hi there twinkle toes

I'm ok although not sure why I got up so early this morning already had three coffees and got bored with the morning news shows. I understand why they repeat the same stuff ever half hour but its a bit like ground hog day after a couple of hours.

That would drive me crazy, the droning on and on with the same information! Sometimes Lit gets that way, too, and it's time to 'turn the channel' or turn it off. :)

It's been a good day here, sun was shining all day although it was a bit on the cooler side after temperatures being in the 80s. Earlier this week I snuck away to the beach for a few hours, yesterday and today I was in a light jacket, go figure!

Any great and wonderful plans for your afternoon?

Morning all,

The weather is certainly on everyone's mind. Floods in NSW, ACT and Tas. Rain in other areas in the southern parts of this vast land. On the up side things will get better although for lots of people that seems a long way off at the moment so thoughts go out to all those impacted by the recent weather events. It was interesting the amount of coverage the houses along the shoreline at Collaroy got more coverage than other areas impacted by the weather.

Here in Melbourne we have been spared any major rain events, still had and are having the wet stuff pass through. Was raining heavily last night but didn't last too long, set to be wet for the next couple of days.

Has been a busy couple of days for me. Family birthday to attend, driving in the rain and doctor visits completed yesterday, was in the clinic for two hours all up. Then found out their computer system crashed so nobody got receipts nor process their claims. So everyone there is now off to Medicare to claim their benefits and we all know that is such a non-productive time spent. Try phoning them and actually speaking to someone. Looked at the new web page which doesn't give you much confidence when they give you the hint that you should take extra protection when setting up your on-line account. The process they recommend is that you contact them, they then send you a text message with an additional password which you then type into the website. Really? Who designed this process...Mickey Mouse. You can't even get Medicare on the phone so who the fuck is going to send you a text message. They would be better off with pigeons.

Yeah I think we need to look at how the Yanks do their morning shows. They have news bulletins but they mix it up with other bits and they have live music during the week. I've even looked at the show with Kathy Lee and Hoda, can get a bit girly for me but some bits are ok and they have a wine during the show, now that is civilized.

Given our season at the moment the only people likely to be going to the beach are residents of Darwin or FNQ.

No great plans for today, its wet and cold outside. I reckon I've been rained on enough in the last couple of days. Its also bin day so was going to do some hacking in the garden until I heard the rain outside. So I reckon its video game day and some house chores. And of course I've started a new round of exercise to keep the medical people happy, so damn boring.

Well I guess you're right the other one is a bottom feeder.

Afternoon all,

Must be good to be Queen you get two birthday celebrations in the same year and yet more horses. Long weekends...ah yes I remember the days of looking forward to one less work day in the week and the chance to catchup on sleep. The weather was ok as well.

Spent part of the long weekend doing family stuff although heavy traffic thru the city for some event at Jeff's Shed.

Yet another mass shooting in the States although things won't change, not sure how much loss of life it will take until people rise up against the gun lobby's hold on politics. Apparently you need military weapons to meet the 'right to bear arms', however that was written when you had a single shot rifle no semi-automatic option and no cartridge magazines. Will we get thru the year without another incident similar to the one in Orlando? Let's hope so.

On a more positive note, the sun is out and there is a new video game to buy and the ability to live in a society with freedom to be who you want to be, now that's worth getting out of bed for.

Good morning all :)

Well, most of the flooding in Tas has subsided enough that repairs can be started. Roads, bridges, etc have been washed away and loads of buildings have been affected.
Life is pretty much back to normal, albeit with more work thrown in.

My Mama arrived last Saturday to stay with me for a month. This means that my mental health will decline steadily as this next month progresse:eek:
She gives me headaches after a couple of days.... We are complete opposites (she hoardes: I live a monastic, clutter-free existance! Every time she's been to stay, I do a rubbish tip run the day after she leaves.)

My psoriatic arthritis is playing up...... must be the cold weather affecting it. This year has been the worst so far with random joints hurting on different days. Still waiting for an appt with the rheumatologist after 6 months! Hopefully not too much longer as he's the only one that can give me confirmation of this illness so I can finally get onto the correct medicine (which only a rheumy can prescribe!)
Loving (not) that our system works this way!

Shocked and surprised to hear Shorten's answers on the Q&A program on Monday night.
Don't like the guy.... but found myself nodding in agreement with him more than once!
This election will be interesting.

I've found myself disagreeing with him less than usual recently.

The Liberals seem to be doing everything they can not to get reelected.

The local Liberal candidate refused to turn up to a question and answer evening yesterday.

I lean slightly to the left, but until now, Shorten has been a bit of a letdown.
His response to the questions about Manus and Nauru really surprised me!
It's almost like the 2nd half of this election campaign has helped him grow a pair!
