Aussies! Check in here!

Ok... I'll bite

What on earth is there in Corio that you'd want to take your Mum there to see let alone spend the day there? In my experience, Corio is a great place to bypass. What have I missed?

The rain is a relief. Aside from the wind and the sudden cold snap (20° at 10pm, before the thunderstorm, then it didn't get above 17° all day today) it was a good day to tackle the weeds.

Yep I used to think the same thing about Corio from what it used to be like then I saw the Postcards show and the new restaurants along the foreshore so decided to check it out back in Jan and was pleasantly surprised. Found a club away from the tourists that serves good food and the staff were very helpful. My mum liked the place so much she wanted to go back hence the trip for Mother's Day. Not the best weather but the rain could of been worse like yesterday and today.

Hope the wind hasn't blown you away over the last couple of days, seems we're in for more of it tonight.

G'day all

Just a quick drop in to let you all know I'm still kicking :D

That's it Webbo keep moving if they can't catch you they can't pigeon hole you.

Seems the older we get there is someone trying to stick a pill down your throat.

Oi! G'day!:D

and to say I am seeing (and occasionally buying) lots of South Australian wines on the shelves of the bottle shops and supermarkets here. Not bad prices either.
And my Chinese missus loves the taste of a smooth Merlot or crisp Riesling.

I'm not an Aussie but I love Aussie men--well I think all American women do!! So just wanted to say g'day!

Hi Jen, not a problem we welcome tourists :D

If you have any questions about Australia just post them here and someone will reply. Aussies from all over the country post here so there is a wealth of knowledge in the collective posters.

As for Aussie men probably the accent gets you first, at least I found that when travelling around the US.

Yep the Aussie wine trade has done rather well in different parts of the world. Had an uncle in the UK that loved Aussies wines better than French wines. No BS with our wines and we gave the world the twist top wine bottle. Mind you the French still think our wine is crap which is more about protecting their claim.

Hi, darkelf, it's been a long time since I've popped in here to say hello to you! I hope you are having a great week so far!

Afternoon all,

With Mother's Day just gone hope everyone's mum had a good day or if you're a mum hope you got pampered and shown lots of lovin'.

Was a wet day for Mother's Day here in Melbourne town but not as bad as the last two days. Getting battered by northerly winds and wet stuff now going to get another blast of wet stuff from the south. Now we definitely need wet stuff after a rather dry couple of months but would be nice if it was paced out, on the plus side got the car washed.

Expensive week last week. Got the heater serviced and the oven died suddenly so two consecutive days of tradies at my place, then add those to the ones already in the street working on house rebuilds, it was like a convention. Has become a very popular neighbourhood in the last year for rebuilding houses. No doubt more of that to come with the older residents selling up.

Well the election is underway and aren't we so impressed, thankfully both major parties are spending time in Qld and NSW. Apparently Turnbull sold bananas in his youth which obviously was setting the scene to work in Canberra, although not sure the Libs would of been happy with the bend in the bananas. Probably try to get campaign running of straightening them thru prayer.

Hello there good to see you back posting. Yeah this week I'm just relaxing and taking a break. Have put the paints away till the warmer weather comes back and tidied up the place a bit. I reckon I need to hire a dwarf to clean the oven properly either that or cut my legs off.

Next major tasks are in the garden, been watching the rain come thru over the last couple of days, thankfully don't have any chores to do outside. Back playing one of my video games and listening to the new CD's. Purchased Adele's latest and a band I saw on Jimmy Fallon's show that I never heard of before, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats classified as alternative which amused me.

Hope the weather isn't impacting your week too much, then again to get that wet look all you need to do is go outside :D.

Morning all,

Not sure why I was up so early today considering its Sunday then happened to turn on the TV and saw the last part of Eurovision and Dami did better than expected. If they kept the old voting she would of won, anyway it was amazing that she got second. Heard that Graham Norton went on a rant as to why Australia was there etc, then again technically countries like England, Ireland and Israel aren't part of Europe either so lighten up people.

Had a corking incident last night, most annoying. Went to open a bottle of scotch and the damn cork split in half so had to remove contents without bits of cork in my scotch. Solution was to drink the remaining contents of a bottle of rum, filter out the cork from the scotch then pour it into the empty rum bottle and relabel it. Was preparing dinner at the time so eating something soaked up the booze consumed. Crisis dealt with.

Not sure the media can tell the difference between a "tinnie" and a fibreglass boat. Firstly they called it a "tinnie" then a dinghy then a boat. Couldn't imagine those glory seekers leaving Australia in a "tinnie" to the open sea. Even people smugglers aren't that stupid. Ya gonna need a bigger boat. You can just hear the sharks saying..."fire up the bbq dude, lunch is coming to us"

Perhaps there wasn't enough dinner to go with the rum? ;)

I would have let those guys go. Then the feds could have let Indo know, they would have been arrested there, and Indonesia has way tougher laws and jails than we have!
Now we have to fund their prison stay here.
Never thought I'd say this out loud.... but our cops and legal system is nowhere near smart enough!

What about Australia coming second in Eurovision? :D

Dami Im should have beaten Ukraine's Jamala for the dress alone!

Hi aussies! :D New guy here, so I thought I'd introduce myself to the people I know best haha...not sure what to expect but I hope to find some interesting people here, I mean It's the internet for christs sake! So uhh, peace out bretherin, see you on the threads :heart::heart:

Well lets face it the sharks are probably sick of sushi all the time.

Actually it was the other way around with the rum, not enough rum to go with dinner, now I have to buy another bottle of rum to replace the one I used for the scotch...things weren't meant to be easy :D

Hey WQ

If those idiots decided to fly rather than take a small boat then yep probably the AFP would of let them go and then get picked up by the Indonesians, like they did with that drug crew. However since they would of probably drowned at sea the AFP would of been blamed for letting them drown rather than take action.

You would think that someone in that group on the long drive north would of raised the question of whether or not this was a good idea. It's not like they just went for a drive down the road.

The timing of the AFP raids on the Labour Party offices was not a smart move. Another conversation that was not had by all concerned considering they knew about the issue back from Dec last year. Perception is reality in this society these days.

Just saw the latest issue with that win by the Ukraine, apparently its an old song which is not allowed by the rules, i.e. the song can't be one that was previously released commercially. But yes agree Dami should of won it but the voting in Europe is biased towards Europeans similar to the F1 where European drivers always get the better resources in a team. Europe likes to consider itself progressive but they are very biased towards their own.

Evening all,

Welcome to nexus...yep you get to be a virgin all over again and atone for the last time you were a virgin.

Well its the end of another week of stuff. The weather is finally turning to colder temps but not yet cold enough to fire up the heater, at least not for me although did have the warm slippers on yesterday for a little while.

Watched some of the Queen's birthday celebration last night. The horse lovers must of been wrapped, me not so much. Lost count of how many horses were on the show and a goat who didn't want to be there. And yes where there are horses there is horse shit. The cameras even had close ups of it, however they quickly moved away when realising what was on the screen. Had to laugh. Anyway the Queen enjoyed the show and she was the birthday girl.

Discovered that you have to keep voting till you die or get to the stage where you can't remember your name. Was sure there was an old rule that you could opt out of voting past a certain age. Seems there are three things you can't do anything about... death, taxes and voting.

Hope your weekend is as stress free as possible.

Evening everyone!

I am in a glorious mood tonight... my new business hasn't even begun yet, and already I am being asked to quote for work! Tomorrow is my first one :)

Add to that, the fact that I fixed my car all by my ownsome - yep, I did the work! - replaced a waterpump and temp sensor as well as doing a full cooling system flush. To say I am uber-chuffed would be understating it slightly :D

AND.... add to that...... I lost 4kg in the past fortnight!!!

All is good and right in wq's world at the moment.

As for voting - it is my considered opinion that every last one of the Liberal, Labour, National and Green current candidates are wankers. Therefore, I urge every voter to vote EXCLUSIVELY for Independent candidates.
Number every last box below the line, and make certain you put all the Independents in front of any party candidate.
That way at the very least, the Independents will hold the balance of power in both Houses.... and we might actually get some shit done in this country!

Right, with that wonderfully insightful piece of wisdom, I am off to enjoy a glass or three of this delightful red while I cook my awsome crispy bacon and corn chowder.

Have an awesome weekend!

Starting well for me...just had some cheese dip and crackers with a glass of a smooth South Aussie Red. The missus managed to find a tenant for her retail space and because of the peculiarities of the system here, he will be paying a full year in advance.

Voting? haha my vote is secret, but if it wasn't, it wouldn't be Labour (sic) it would be Labor.

Oh and I can go to nearby Chengdu to vote at the Aussie Consulate there. Cool!

I would be if I were them, eating the same thing day after day.

Why not buy two, then you don't have to feel rushed to replace anything. You can just stay home and relax and enjoy.

The first time I had rum, a friend mixed it with cranberry juice. Actually, it was the first time I'd had cranberry juice, too. :D. It was delicious!

Hey bare

I like variety in most things including booze so I usually buy one at a time I was entertaining the idea of drinking the shelf, i.e trying every different type one bottle at a time. But I tend towards the dark rums mainly the Jamaican type. Never tried anything except coke in a rum, cranberry sounds too healthy. I have tried cranberry by itself, it needs something so I guess rum is an option. I can't get myself to try rum and raspberry as I see people order by the pitcher. Looks like a kids drink. Not for me. Like trying rum balls without the rum. These days I have to ask if there is any rum in rum balls, the answer I usually get is.."we don't put any rum in them so kids can have them"..I feel like saying.."then why call them rum balls people"

I'm actually trying to clean out the booze in the cupboard. I usually get it as gifts so I'm never short. I'm up to the 12yr old scotch now, keeping the 21 yr old stuff till last. It certainly is the weather for a warming drink, so cheers!

Afternoon all,

Well it's a wet day timetable for all cities in the south. Winter has finally arrived. Have had the heater working last night watching the Giro. Glad I don't have to venture forth into the workforce on days like this. Definitely hot drinks and comfort food time.

Went to the dentist on Monday so naturally I purchased chocolates and cake afterwards as reward for being a good boy. It was long trip to the city and back home. Went a different way to due to the works on those rail crossings happening in different parts of Melbourne. For the sake of a few, millions more are inconvenienced not to mention the cost to the state budget which could be spent on other stuff. Even train stations with underground walkways still has people running around boom gates cause its the more direct path. Those who are older will remember the old wooden gates that stretched across the tracks so it wasn't possible to cross the tracks whilst a train was crossing.

Isn't Barnaby entertaining? All he needs is a banjo and a shot gun. Seems we are happy selling off assets to the Chinese again, given what they have done in the South China sea I guess we could sell them the Barrier Reef since its dying anyway and they could build something on it like a detention centre after all look what they have done to those coral islands by building structures on them, they obviously have a close link to the environment don't you think?

Afternoon all,

Well for all of us in the southern states Winter has certainly arrived with a rude knock on the door. For those in the north time to get out a proper shirt rather than the tank tops and t-shirts. I prefer Winter to Summer but may need to get central heating in the next house. Things you need think about when not working and you have to pay for the heating during the day.

Even my normally warm hands are a bit on the chilly side at the moment, however they would still make an effective barrier against the cold for ladies' boobs, after all it's about layers during winter :D

Old blokes would be happy with the cold, makes their balls tighten up so they can relive their youth.

It was a bit of a chilly surprise to have to go out earlier in the morning yesterday for the annual blood test cause god knows what will happen if the vampires don't get their regular blood donation.

The debate of animals vs humans has certainly got people fired up. Since we are the dominant species on the planet tis interesting how we think of the other animals on the planet, then again won't be the last time we determine what lives and dies. The question is should we have that power? Kanye vs a shark who would you save?

Your cold hands on warm boobs! Not sure that would be particularly welcome. But glad you are finding a way to still feel young.

Yes, every citizen 18 years old and over is required to vote in State and Federal elections. It's only council elections where you may be excused past 75 years of age. The way things are going, the older retirees should be wanting to make sure they get their say over superannuation rules, pensions, Medicare rebates and the pbs.

I had a laugh last week when Prime Minister Turnbull, in campaign mode with assorted media, jumped on a train in Sydney to be among the people only to have one lady ask who he was! That made for an awkward journey.

As for Kanye or the shark? The shark...Sharks are important in the ocean Eco system, Kayne is of no importance.
