Aussies! Check in here!

Hi aussies...

I'm still around, despite a few setbacks.... health, wealth, etc.

On a positive note, I am down 26kg! Have now transitioned fully over to keto eating and am finding it quite easy despite the first few days being very confused about how it all works. Size 16 (tight) down to a size 10!!!

Had a major slap in the face yesterday when I realised that at age 50, I have either lost or given away every single substantial thing I built up (businesses, etc) and I now have nothing left to pass on to my kids.... Time to get my ass into gear and build up something for them, I think! and this time I will stay single and not allow anyone into my life that might fuck it all up for me like past partners have done. I do have an idea for a new business, but now need to get together the finance to kick it off...

Seems this weekend will be horribly messy for us down here in the forgotten part of Oz - it has already begun snowing at Cradle Mtn and we've had a day and a half of scuddy rain and gales. Good excuse to stay home and work on costings/proposals for my new venture.

Heater, computer, Dewers, and single-minded focus - that's the plan!

Stay safe and warm xx

Hey WQ

Good to see that you're being positive. Can't rely on other people to make you happy, need to find your own happy place. According to the doctors everyone is overweight unless you're a super model. Losing 26kg is a lot, just ensure to keep the curves :D.

Your kids will get on with life with our without any legacy, so firstly think of yourself, kinda like the safety briefing on a flight..."put the oxygen mask on yourself before assisting your children". I never expected my parents to leave me any financial legacy, it's my life and it's up to me to make the best of it so I've had to rely on my own decisions to put myself into a financial secure position. Your kids will be fine :rose:

Myself I prefer the smokey malts where they source their water from the peat springs. Something like Talisker or Llagavulin (think that's the right spelling lol). Not overly expensive at around $70 unless you go the top end ones.

Cheers

I have a goal to drink my way up the ladder of single malts as I age, after all it's my money and I'm working on the statement that you can't take your money with you when you die, so I'm going to give that a shake :D

Haven't tried the ones you mentioned and after a few glasses the spelling is secondary just need to point and have the dollars, that worked for me thru Europe :D

Have a friend in Sydney who claims you can't taste the difference between the different ages of scotch to which I said that's crap, then again she only drinks white wine.

Afternoon all,

Well it's a cloudy rainy day in Melbourne town, better to be inside. It's raining as I'm typing. Lots of rain last night and it is chilly so using the spare doona whilst on the couch, getting cold enough at this hour to have the heater on. Good day for some hot chips and a few dim sims. Might be an idea for dinner. Purchased a vegie steamer only to discover it worked well for dimmies so gave the vegie idea a miss. Dipping sauce of soy and chillies, yummo.

Went to the new GP venue yesterday which is all modern and air conditioned. A bit funny with the ramps out the front but the GP's are up the stairs with one small lift on the ground floor. So that's going to get interesting if the lift is out. GP's have to amalgamate to stay in business it seems.

If anyone is thinking of visiting Melbourne at this time of year, well don't, unlike you like antartic winds and having fingers going numb from the cold. Even some of the cafes have removed their outdoor seating.

Took a while to get out of bed today. Waited till I needed coffee, so slept thru the morning. Good time of year to be retired. Hope your weekend goes well even if the weather might not be the best in your area. No I'm not talking to those in the north or west.

Lagavulin is quite nice. Some of the Japanese ones are great, and the one from Taiwan that took out the awards this year is fantastic too.

All this talk of scotch on a cold night...reminds me of my grandmother! I have very fond memories of getting her evening "medicine" and taking a sip for myself!

I hope everyone is keeping warm. I've got out my ugg boots and fluffy dressing gown. Another week until the winter solstice! Hooray!

Climate change a myth? Perth summer this year didn't get over 38C! Seriously! My lawn stayed green and didn't get all crispy....

 your avatar MissSwannie

WQ - Sounds like you're still going through a bit. Take care, really. And be careful not to fade away! It sounds like you've lost weight so quickly!

As for me - I just got a message from my ex who I haven't seen in 10 years. He lives overseas now but is back visiting family for a couple of weeks. Wants to catch up. I really should say no, but given I'm feeling rather sad and lonely I want to say yes. So, so I think I'll just not reply tonight and hope I'm feeling less sad and lonely tomorrow.

Too right, sleep on it. In fact have a scotch and sleep on it even better
I'm using the blue skies to kid myself it is not winter. Shhhh.

Excellent idea to sleep on any decision - remember, he's your ex for a reason!
We humans are funny creatures.... we tend to amplify the good memories and suppress the bad ones! It can be a massive minefield, if we forget why we're no longer a couple :(
(I made that mistake yrs ago.... reconnected with an ex, only to discover he was even more of a narcissistic pig than when I left him!)

As for my weight loss, I am being closely watched by my doc.
Having bloods done monthly, so I am monitoring my levels.
To be honest, I am still trying to understand how my body can have so much fat and protein going in yet still be losing weight! The current food pyramid must be completely wrong as I followed it religiously but couldn't shift the fat. Here I am having 110grams of fat each day (5 times the recommended amount!) and still going down!
Makes me wonder just how much credibility to give the medical types who promote the current eating guide......???

Morning all. Blue sky again here

The human body is funny thing. The whole inputs outputs and absorption part is so two dimensional in view. Throw hormones, interrupters and then the bodies reaction to those around them and you end up with a whole different set of outcomes. It's not a binary outcome

Glad that the doc (and you) are monitoring it. It's amazing how much we have learnt about things over the years and how wrong we used to be about so many things! Not just food...

Well, I've been very sensible with the ex. I said I'll see him next week. And I probably will, but it'll be something sensible, and probably with my small child in tow.
Damn me for being so sensible. :D

Yeah, the evening today vs the morning later. Good thinking.

Good old scotch to keep the chills at bay. Can thoroughly recommend Lark from Tasmania, possibly the smoothest whiskey I have ever had. Expensive but so worth it.
Also agree that MissSwannie has nailed the avatar. She does the pictures exceptionally well.
Hope you've got through the sad and lonely and woke up feeling a little brighter and fresher?
Brief sunshine before it rains again, and it will be coming down I believe.
:)

I had a check up a year ago and was given some rather startling news, high blood pressure, cholesterol and elevated blood sugar. Not ideal.
Doctor actually stated I should start medication asap. I chose to ignore him and went for diet and exercise.
Worked a treat, dropped 20kgs in 12mths and keeping it off. Never looked or felt better.
Go through our exercise group for eating plans which at times involves a ketosis diet, that stuff works like mad. My first 8wk block dropped 11kgs. I do it in concert with a pretty hectic exercise schedule as well and it's the bomb.
Good luck getting healthy as you need to be.

I was reading something in the newspaper up in Japan recently and they were getting results from studies that were saying that even imbalances in group hormone levels affect the people around you. Older blokes who stated shedding testosterone levels in office groups would trigger changes in the men and women around them unless the group got a new member with increased levels to compensate. Same with changes in women affecting other women and men around them.
So we are all base level animals underneath that can change through no action of our own. I guess the adage of go and find a few new friends is not far off that. As to eating guides and plans, I think the majority of them are based on stable everything else, so not flexible enough to explain all the other factors that can go into it.

Now all that said, it is going to rain here next week so better go out and get some sunshine while I can. I swear I am solar powered.

So this morning I broke my arm.
I have 6 weeks of life in a cast..... Yay, not.
Kinda cramps my life a little!

pissing fucken icicles here at the moment. I've always found it kind of mean that men were designed with a multi-directional urination device that we can keep nice and snug and warm in our pants and then the means with which we are supposed to control it are placed right at the end of our arms where they freeze. You can imagine the child like screams from the bathroom last night as i felt the need to recycle some Jamesons and reached tentatively into my flanalette pyjamas to search for the little fella who was doing his best cold turtle impersonation. "EEeeeekkk" Might try putting the kitchen tongs under some warm water and use them next time.

Fucking Queensland beautiful one day, perfect the next.

Ach well.. will try and find a spot out of the westerlys and soak a little winter sun.

@WQ - a broken arm sounds terrible. That would be half of my sex life finnished. How did you manage to do that?

Japanese high tech toilet seats, I'll give you the tip. The top end ones even have a little hot air vent so the blokes can warm up their hand first. Getting people off them and out the door is more the problem nowdays.

Sorry to hear that hope it isnt to bad. Just get a knitting needle ready for when the inevitable itches under the cast start.

OUCH! That's just what you don't need! I hope it heals quickly/normally.

I was thinking the same thing...only it's my entire sex life these days.

Another day closer to the weekend. It's all I seem to be living for these days! I've dusted off my Resume getting ready for the reorganizational announcement Wednesday next week...just in case! I've also got my next IVF specialist appointment this week. This one is going to hurt because I opted for her rooms rather than in theatre (because I can't drive after sedation/GA and I feel guilty for taking more time off work)

Good luck with both. Reorganisations such fun. My ex wife & went through IVF & it certainly isn't enjoyable going through it

Good luck with the IVF, that's a tough journey

I was out clubbing, and a large drunk guy fell over onto my back. Put my arms out to stop myself faceplanting, and ended up with his entire weight on top of me.
End result - a broken left forearm.

Surprisingly, sex is still possible! Just need to modify positions :D
