wet wet suits
Hi Ozsteamer
id read this thread a while ago, and thought, well whatever floats your boat. However!
Ive been living in Melbourne for a year now, but only last weekend did i venture into the sea for my first swim.
It was a very cold day, i had a bad cold on its way, but my trusted friend assured me that once i had a wet suit on, i wouldnt feel any cold.
So, on the friday night, we loaded up the car, booked a cabin by the 12 apostles and drove down the great ocean road for my first surfing experience.
Saturday morning, it was raining, raining hard. Now my only experience of wet suits is those ive used for caving, heavy, uncomfortable and very unflexible, but they did the job of keeping me warm, so i trusted my friend and into the wooden hut i went to put mine on. I did feel a little stupid to find id put the feckin thing on backwards! So i turned it round so the zip was at the back but then couldnt reach it. My friend passed me the chord and said there you go and walked off to the sea. I gathered my clothes together, and then pulled up the zipper.
As the zipper made its loud sound, i suddenly found myself very constricted! Oh my god! I was supposed to be nonchalently walking into the sea, but the feelings rushing round my body from the suit were amazing! Id of been content to just sit on the beach for hours, just so long as i could wear the suit. I had a very difficult time blanking out the messages being sent to my brain from a vary errant body.
I checked myself out in the car window, arent they flattering too! And id previously berated my friend for buying hers as id never want to borrow it, and thus it was a waste of her money.
So now, yes, i can quite see why you might have this particular bent.
Unfortunately, the sea was so rough that i was particularly crap at this new sport, never did get to stand up, just body boarded all day. And wriggled rather a lot.
Thanks for the tip love! Neoprene is the new black!
