Augh! My Cats Are Driving Me CRAZY!!

Since Owen was a two-weeker, he's always slept with me - usually right in my face, with his mouth up my nose or mouth. Aiko's more of an independent kitty, especially when the weather's warm. She usually sleeps in a cat bed in another room, perched high out of Owie's range so she can get a night's sleep.

Well, the nights are chilly, so for the last couple of nights Aiko's been sleeping with us again. To Owie, this means every night is a slumber party. He can't just lay down and rest - he HAS to go jump on Aiko and initiate play, usually on my legs or back. They roll all over the bed, they make funny noises, they roll off the bed, the jump back on. ALL NIGHT LONG. It's really sweet to have two little cuties fast asleep with me, but this all-night-play business had got to go!

That's all they're good for

driving people crazy. Eventually, all cat-owners go crazy (not all will admit it, though).

You cannot just shut the bedroom door and let the kitties sleep on the couch or something?

This is going down as reason #345 why I have a dog.

~ahem~ I wonder where they learned that behavior from? ;)

Sounds like the 'Cat' that's driving me crazy!

I think it's cute....

But here's what you do... If they're not usuing claw you reach and you push them over. Like they'll be running and you push Owen over and hold your hand on him for a little bit. That calms mine down. Then you take your hand off of him and he should be still.. for a while at least.*

I'll trade you. We have one 100 lb Golden Retriever and one 75 Bassett/Shepard mix that think they need to sleep on the bed at night.

Kicking doesn't work. Tried it, they get back on the bed as soon as I fall back to sleep

we got a kitten here just after we moved into the house. after getting tired of Koki waking her up by batting at her eyelashes and generally pouncing her face, my friend kicked her out of her room at night. too bad for my other friend, b/c he leaves the door to his room open at night. Koki woke him up once by licking his nipple!

I just knew that Owen was no good as soon as I saw him! Mark my words he's heading for trouble...

:)

Ack !

Don't I know that feeling !

When I first got my cat Bonnie, she would make a habit out of attempting to chew my toes at 3 am !

Her favourite is waiting until you're semi awake, and the licking your face and meowing loudly until I get up and feed her.

Another fave of hers is playing with her ping pong balls in the hallway at 4am...

Sounds like my house, only it's a 120 lb. Pitbull/Aussie mix and a 55 lb. Chow/German Shepard mix. Seriously considering a king-size bed, since kicking is pointless.

The kitty folk are just a bunch of whiners. :D

Try having a 100 lb golden lab and a 4 month old kitten who pounce on each other all night long on my bed. The cat thinks it's so much fun to then race across my room, under my dresser and then climb up inside it and roll around in my drawers. First time I heard it I thought it was a mouse and almost freaked out, since I'm terrified of them. :)

I've got a baseball bat with Owens name on it if you're interested.

Try 3 dogs...one shepherd/lab/husky, one shepherd/lab/terrier, and one shepherd/keeshond.
And 5 cats...
Very interesting at night...and since I have a waterbed, it sometimes feels like I'm on a raft in a turbulent storm...

Nope - that doesn't work (with cats OR dogs) - they'll just stand at the door and scratch or meow (or bark if they're a dog or a disfunctional cat or a tree).

We have two siamese - they're older cats now - that type of nocturnal behavior subsides as they get older though. Occasionally they have the illusion they're still kittens and streak through the house in the middle of the night. At this point its quite nice to see that they've still got it in them (especially our 18 year old cat...)

Sleeping arrangements - they seem to have staked out their territory. One of them likes to get under the covers by our legs - the other likes to sleep by our heads.

I think I'm spoiled...

I have a 70 lb Black Lab who likes to spend the first five to ten minutes on the bed. However, as soon as I make a move to roll over he springs off the bed onto the floor.

The only thing that he does at night that bothers me is growling in his sleep. First time he did that it scared the shit out of me. I thought he had someone cornered! Then I realized I don't live in the big city anymore and no one would drive all the way out to the middle of nowhere to break into my house when what few neighbors I do have don't even lock their doors at night.

Laurel, as my three cats once explained to me, they do these little things to make us stronger. Course thats an all inclusive excuse to deposit hairballs on my nice clean carpet, run across my keyboard at just the wrong moment, and steal things from my dresser.

I have three cats, 10, 15, and 20 lbs. approximately. All were strays and very scruffy when we got them. They all have unique personalities, well actually one of them seems to have several personalities, and are all wonderful.

They can all take treats with their "hands" and one of them is smart enough to open a wooden box where I keep my hair stuff, she has a real thing for the coated rubber bands. The smart part is not so much that she opens the box, but that she closes it to cover her tracks.

As to the night time thing...have you ever tried large doses of catnip? Mine ususally go right to dreamland.

Good Luck,

Kit
