How much do you spend on smokes every week, and how many packs do you smoke? I go through about a carton a week, costs me 14.50 online, free shipping. Camels, sometimes Marl. Reds. Be damned if I'm gonna fund those fucking truth.com commercials anymore than I have to with these ridiculous taxes. Here in chicago it's about 5.50 a pack on average, and with the new taxes hitting in April, I think it's supposed to surge just over six. Feel sorry for New Yorker nictotine fiends, those sorry bastards might be paying 7.00+ pretty soon.

Go nicotine!

I tried to quit. Failed. I try every year at least once or twice to put that shit down.

I even had a dramatic episode where I coughed and gagged and then puked. I was stareing at my vomit in the toilet and thought, "I feel like I am sucking the Devil's dick." Know what? I was.

Still am. One vice at a time, one vice at a time.

Why the fuck don't they have treatment centers for nicotine addiction like they do alcohol and dope? Wait. Nicotine is dope. I need to be strapped in a little white room and have them slide my food under the door. If after the first day I am behaving, maybe they will give me a book or two? I wanna go! Do you think my insurance policy (excellent as it is) would cover that? Fuck. I got the summer off!

What the FUCK? Tobacco kills people. It costs our society millions of dollars! It makes mommies and daddies die and the kids are crying and all. SMOKING KILLS.

They won't let me kill myself with marijuana, but they have no problem with letting me suck the devils dick.

Yes, I suffer tremendous smokers guilt. Ain't any different from people and their fucking food problems either.

I'd like to hear more about this entire issue.

Or maybe I should just quit and not give a fuck.

no one can say i'm a rocket scientist....fer sure.....<winking>....unless of course they were making fun of me.....and said...oh yeah...you know Ginny.....she's a fucking rocket scientist....and then they all snorted and guffawed...and stuff....

You people from Louisiana are turds and the entire state is the cloaca of North America.

Nicotine treatment centers?

My best guess as to why there aren't treatment centers is this. It's trendy to pick on smokers. We're *bad* people. All we do is throw our butts on the ground and cloud everyone's precious air. Alkies and drug addicts are 'sick' and need to be helped, because obviously it's not their fault, whilst smokers are just bad, incosiderate people. I agree it's a load of horse apples, but that's society these days.

blast.

that was me again. stupid cookies. anyway, something else. Does it really cost the country millions? I bet what the govt. makes in taxes more than makes up for healthcare costs. I know my insurance is more because I'm a smoker. And since I have my own plan, being freelance, i pay more than most with standard healthcare plans from their place of employment.

Welcome to the monkeyhouse.

This guy is in Switzerland, so it takes about 2 week to get to your place. Never had a problem with them being stale or anything, though. And even if they were, I'd put up with it to not support the anti-smoking assclowns.

I quit 15 tears ago, after trying more times than I could count. It was by far the hardest thing that I've ever done. My youngest was having some upper respitatory problems and my doc said that it was critical for me to stop exposing her to the second hand smoke. At 3 pks of Camel streights a day, it was very hard. But you can do nearly anything if you are motivated enough.

Good luck guys and gals, you will love being an exsmoker. One word of caution, though. Food will start to taiste really good as your taiste buds recover.

My partner is a smoker and it drives me crazy. He doesn't realize all the money he's spent on cigarettes but I sure as hell do! He quite for about two weeks and then started up twice as bad as before. Right now, cigarettes are about $8/per pack with the tax and he's up to smoking a pack or more a day. He'll spend around $300/month on cigs and coffee. Then he bitches at me for buying too much lingerie ;)

Sounds like you need to dress up in the lingerie and convince him to do try to satisfy his oral desires another way

Hmm, here in Philly they are about $4.00 a pack for Newport and at about a pack a day that would put me up $28.00 a week and $1,460 a year.

But I'm sure I spend triple that feeding my caffeine addiction.

I'm a Marlboro Ultra Lights gal. I buy them by the pack, which is stupid. I pay anywhere from $3.25 to right under $4.00. I can't buy a carton, that admits my addiction simply too much for me to handle. I have purchased about 3 cartons in the last 2 years. I'm about to break down though.

Same reason I won't buy cartons...

I pay anywhere from $2.70 to $3.50 a pack for Marlboro Lights, unless I go to Quick Trip where I can usually get 3 packs for $7.

I smoke about a pack a day lately, though it varies dramatically depending on who I'm with and how badly my writing is going.

About health insurance and smoking...

:rose: Hassling smokers strikes me as a very insincere occurrence these days--at least if people do it because they are "worried" about our health. Case in point, if people were truly concerned, insurance plans would have a whole slew of programs designed to get people off cigs.

My best insurance program wouldn't even pay for the nicotine patch when they were prescription only. I don't take the concern of others too seriously because there is no real assistance out there for smokers to quit. And, nicotine is one of the most tenacious addictions that exists. I've heard that people have more success staying off heroin than off of cigs.

So, right now the approach is to berate smokers, use guilt, treat them as pariahs, but not do anything concrete about the problem except things that will inconvenience smokers--making public buildings smoke free, not provide outdoor smoking areas with cover from the elements...and making it implicitly alright to insult or be rude to smokers. Not saying anyone HERE is rude or insulting, only that smokers are the currently targeted scapegoat for people's annoyance with life, and it has certainly happened to me a number of times. And I try to be quite conscientious.

In Texas, generic cigs are about $2 per pack. I buy cigs at Sam's, smoke American Spirit, about $28 per carton. At the grocery store, Am. Spirits are about $5 per pack.

Now the fun stuff. When deciding who's gonna drive somewhere, I tell people my car is a smoking car--so if you ride with me you have to smoke.

Now a non-smoking funny. Having a smoking area in a restaurant is like having a peeing area in a swimming pool.

:)

Oh, yeah...and...

:rose: And we know that it would cost insurance companies less to put a smoker through 50 quit-smoking programs, than to pay for one lung cancer case.

Whoa! Back up the truck!

In my book, there's definitely no such thing as too much lingerie. I like to dress sexy all the time, not just for special occasions

when california added *another* 50 cent surcharge on cigarettes that was the last straw for me. i was way too poor to be paying $3.50 to $4.50 a pack. i was a smoker for a little over a year and i had spent over a grand on cigs. quitting sucked, but california was/is so antismoking that i was able to manage it.

now i live in new york, and while it's not a pro-smoking state per say, it's not as bad as california. you can smoke in restaurants here, and in bars, and in clubs. there are cigarette vending machines in some places. temptation is all around. i've managed to stay strong, mostly because i can't afford not to, but it's really hard. i don't know if i could have quit under conditions like this.

Gad... I never thought about it like that, but what you just said made a lot of sense. I smoke Marloboro lights and occasionally I'll buy a pack of menthol just to keep things different. I wish they would put just one menthol cigarret in a pack of regulars. You know, just for kicks.

Here in the blighted area people are used to trash, smoking, and all kinds of fallout from from the military-industrial complex. We got all kind a diseases.

Sorry if I was an asshole the other day.

Slap me, I'm a punk. :)
