May Day Is Soon Upon Us!
The Beltane Sabbat, Is A Great Favorite Of Mine:)

For Those Of You That Do Not Follow Our Wheel Of The Year. A Sabbat Is A Wonderful Time To Become More Aware Of Our Traditions:)Sabbats are public rituals, and may be attended by anyone who desires to attend; this is so that we can demonstrate the Sacredness and Joy of our path to those mundane people who may attend. They are held at times determined by the cycle of the sun (the symbol of the divine masculine). Unlike Esbats, which are determined by the cycle Of the Moon (The Symbol Of The Devine Feminine), And Usually more of a private ritual.

May-Day, Is a Celebration of Love. In old Celtic traditions it was a time of unabashed sexuality and promiscuity, The Perfect Celebration For Literoticans!

Older married couples were allowed to remove their wedding rings (and the restrictions they imply) for this ONE night. Men and Women alike would decorate their bodies. Beltane marks the return of vitality, of passion. Ancient Pagan traditions say that Beltane marks the emergence of the young God into manhood. Stirred by the energies at work in nature, he desires the Goddess. They fall in love, lie among the grasses and blossoms, and unite. The Goddess becomes pregnant of the God.

Young People Would Spend The entire night in the woods "A-Maying," and then dance around the phallic Maypole the next morning. Maypole (the lingam),Well:) I'm Pretty Sure Ya'll Know What A Maypole Is. A Great Giant Pole Jutting Proudly Out Of The Earth! LOL
Shiela na-gig (the yoni), Are Your Flowing, Richly colored ribbons that wrap and enfold the Maypole.
The joining together of two substances to form a third is in the spirit of Beltane.

How Wickedly, Deliciously Pagan!

MY QUESTION IS...

What Are You Planning For Your Beltane Celebration?

praising the God and Goddess for the great gifts they have given us all!
Blessed Be:)

Merry Meet!

Chant to the Goddess and God:

O Mother Goddess, Queen of the night and of the Earth;
O Father God, King of the Day and the forests,
We celebrate your union as nature grows in life and color.
We present thee with this gift in this honor of your union.
From your mating shall bring forth renewed life;
Please accept these gifts, O Mother and Father, as we celebrate your blessed union together.

Soon To Post. Some Nice Music For The MayPole Dance:)
And How-To Do The MayPole Dance!

Come on over to the SRP Beltane party!

EarthGoddess has started a wonderful Beltane thread, that I have some small part in... We would welcome even more people to help us honor the Goddess and God in our celebration.

Merry met, to all and sundry...

btw, RNAB, I ADORE that picture!

Thank you for posting this.

I often go out into my yard and the woods behind my house and look up at the moon and stars... quietly reflect - perform a solo ritual (ever read Scott Cunningham's books?)

I have, at times, also held an online celebration with fellow pagans...

My personal circumstances do not bring me into real life contact with the pagan community where I live...

I thought "lingam" and "yoni" were Hindu terms. Am I wrong?

No, You Are Not Wrong Pyper

And They Are Beautiful Words For The Vagina & Penis.

Dillinger! I Have Never Read Scott Cunningham, But Will Be Sure To Check Him Out Next Time I'm At The Book Shoppe:)

A BELTANE SRP THREAD!? Right On, I'll Be There!

Lingam & yoni...

Terminology from tantric yoga, yes?

It is Hindi - the culture which gave us Tantric Yoga - so yes, that may be where you came upon those terms.

Their Union as One and None is the creation of the Universe;

As I said on another thread I'm a forrest person and one of the thing's you do to "bring in the May" is to burn a fire made of nine types of wood and then slip off to the woods in the evening and bring in the may with your lover..;)

Bringing in the may = fucking like bunnies as the night turns from April to May...!

The old Celtic name for May Day is Beltane (in its most popular Anglicized form), which is derived from the Irish Gaelic 'Bealtaine or the Scottish Gaelic 'Bealtuinn', meaning 'Bel-fire', the fire of the Celtic god of light (Bel, Beli or Belinus). He, in turn, may be traced to the Middle Eastern god Baal.

Other names for May Day include: Cetsamhain ('opposite Samhain'), Walpurgisnacht (in Germany), and Roodmas (the medieval Church's name). This last came from Church Fathers who were hoping to shift the common people's allegiance from the Maypole (Pagan lingham - symbol of life) to the Holy Rood (the Cross - Roman instrument of death).

Incidentally, there is no historical justification for calling May 1st 'Lady Day'. For hundreds of years, that title has been proper to the Vernal Equinox (approx. March 21st), another holiday sacred to the Great Goddess. The nontraditional use of 'Lady Day' for May 1st is quite recent (within the last 15 years), and seems to be confined to America, where it has gained widespread acceptance among certain segments of the Craft population. This rather startling departure from tradition would seem to indicate an unfamiliarity with European calendar customs, as well as a lax attitude toward scholarship among too many Pagans. A simple glance at a dictionary ('Webster's 3rd' or O.E.D.), encyclopedia ('Benet's'), or standard mythology reference (Jobe's 'Dictionary of Mythology, Folklore & Symbols') would confirm the correct date for Lady Day as the Vernal Equinox.

By Celtic reckoning, the actual Beltane celebration begins on sundown of the preceding day, April 30, because the Celts always figured their days from sundown to sundown. And sundown was the proper time for Druids to kindle the great Bel-fires on the tops of the nearest beacon hill (such as Tara Hill, Co. Meath, in Ireland). These 'need-fires' had healing properties, and sky-clad Witches would jump through the flames to ensure protection.

Dill you ARE the LAST person I'd expect to make that mistake, Hinduism is a religion, Hindi, a language, and Hind or Hindustan are both INDIA. :) Bharat is also India, BTW.;)

You're right... my mistake... (my bad! *lol*)... I was being to hastily glib in my response. I even 1/2 noticed the mistake as I was typing it and let it slide anyway.

I don't celebrate Beltane necessarily on May Day. I usually celebrate it on the full moon, which in this case is Monday, May 7 -- the Hare Moon.

I will be solitary this year.

I wish everyone a wonderful Beltane, whenever they celebrate. Remember -- it's a great night for the Great Rite, and keep the condoms handy!!! Safety first.

Dilly, I met a HUGE network of Pagans here off the internet. Back when Onelist was still Onelist I did a search, found the mailing list and I've met literally hundreds.
