I'm looking at this site right now using the iCab browser. I actually like this thing better than IE and definitely better than Nutscrape!! I don't have the download URL handy right now, but if you go to http://www.download.com/ I think it's on the front page, or if it's not, you can search for it.

There's still a few bugs (no cookies) but it supports everything the "Big 2" do. It is only a browser, so if you use your browser for mail, it's probably not for you. other than that, it blows them away.

Wait..ARE there any other Mac users here? :)

Why would we want to use a MAC!!

My Barbie computer could probably kick your MACs ass anyday!!!

OMG you don't have one of those new macs, do you? The big ugly cube suspended in plastic? The first time I saw one of those things in a Newsweek flip-open page I just about died of laughter. Well, I guess I shouldn't make fun of other people's computers. After all, it's better than the previous line of Apples with the hockeypuck mice.

What makes this iCab so desirable? Last time I had both netscape and explorer installed they both squabbled like spoiled children over the default for everything. IE tends to handle recognizing overcongested servers better, where netscape makes you wait a few minutes before stating the obvious. Otherwise I havn't noticed any real issues that differentiate the two.

Oh yay. I get to go over the battle of the OS again. Different does not equal better. Or worse. There is absolutely nothing I can't do on a Mac that a PC user can do. I just prefer the interface, that's all, and the G4 (pre-cube, btw) I'm using I personally find superior for the graphics intensive design and programs I use.

The reasons I like iCab are....

"View source" button in the toolbar.
Built in code validotor (comes in handy for me)
Customizable download manager, with fully functional preferences specific to the download manager.
Toolbar access to font manager/prefs
and a few other ones

And Naked Hunny...your comment sounded strangely reminiscent of "my dad can kick your dad's ass". :) You don't have to like everything I like by any means, but if you're going to trash it, back it up with either fact or personal preference.

ok ya wanna know why my computer is cooler than yours?

My comps silver with big pink and purple flowers on it!! hows that for cool?? Oh yea and i got this really nifty silver dig cam with it too!! TOO bad im too stupid to figure it out!!

Damnit Hunny...hurry up and get that cam figured out...I wanna see if you really are naked...You show me yours and I'll show ya mine!!!!

Oh....I like Netscape better...bookmarks are easier to manage...

actually i convinced my daddy to let me use his on vacation so ill see what i can do for ya there sweetheart

I woulda got the Hot Wheels computer if I were you....you get a steering wheel with that one. :)

BTW, did you know the Mac G4 is classified by the US gov't as a weapon? I am NOT making that up, I swear.

THUMP THUMP THUMP

Still waiting for my picture HUNNY!!!!

*why no, I'm not at all impatient...who would say such a thing*

I can see it now....

Prez: We demand you stop all developement on your long_range missile plans. We shall in turn dismantle all our Mac G4s and our ABM system

I have a lil girl why would she want the Hot Wheels computer (actually shhh i just ordered the steering wheel and games to go with it, those are mommys toys)

Heh heh heh!!! Some little girls like to play with cars...I did. Have fun playin' Speed Racer there Hunny!! I won't tell if you won't tell.

oh now im reminiscing of the days when i was allowed to be bad i miss drag racing my bfs car (he didnt know what it could really do) every sat night

AAAWWW man I'm a sign maker for a living the artists that work in our shop go back and forth all the time about mac Vs ibm they both work great yes years ago mac was the shit for graphics however over the years we have had programs like corel that brought us along......THEY both work just fine in todays times it is just a matter of what to learned on and like....

Hunny awwww I'm really jealous I wanted one of those instead Im stuck with a dell. I think it is really cool looking. I am still considering getting it for my girls. Is it as good as they say it is? And is it worth the price?

Does anyone still need convincing that Mac is better than IBM? I thought that was universaly agreed upon around the same day we realized the true shape of the planet. Of course, if you're using the Windows interface I can understand how might think the world is flat.

I predict this will become the nastiest fight in Literotica history.

I say that you use whatever you prefer. The world is big enough for both Mac and IBM "clones".

I haven't done much on Mac myself, but one thing that wasn't very logical to me, was that on the Mac that I did work just a little with, to get your floppy ejected, you had to drag to icon on the desktop to the trashcan. To a windows user that seems like you're deleting all that's on the floppy! lol

Ohh by the way:

Naked Hunny, please get that Camera to work, I too love to exchange pics! :D:D

Dixon!!! You use a Mac? I could kiss you. Well, I could probably do that anyway, but more so now. :)

There are ups and downs to both OS's. The reason I prefer Mac is it's. all. right. there. I don't have to type in C:\don't\make\me\configure\this\shit\again\ or deal with BIOS, registries, .ini, .bat or any other sundry superfluos files. I have a computer to do that...it's called a Mac.

A 400MHz G4 is faster than a 400MHz Intel/AMD/etc...it's been proven time and again in benchmark tests. There is no 'start' menu to open programs that are lost somewhere in the folder heirarchy. There IS not folder heirarchy unless you decide there should be one, for example, putting your IE cache folder in your IE folder in your Internet folder.

An the programs have names...not some odd My Computer icon you have to click just to SEE what's in your HD. BBEdit is not BBoieuwqoiert.ini, it's BBEdit.

There are very few file extensions. The ones that ARE used are mostly for compression.

And don't even get me started on cross platform compatability. A Mac can open a Winzip file just fine. A PC can't open a .sit or an .hqx without digging for or buying a 'bridge' program. I can send a PC user a .doc file without Microsoft word. I can type it in any other app and throw the .doc on manually. Try THAT on a PC. :) And can anyone say USB? It's standard on ALL Macs that are currently shipping. Plug n' Play baby.

Mac software and OS is MUCH less buggy and much MORE stable.

As for the disk eject issue, I understand that's been corrected in the new Macs. There's now a key and an icon...but then in the Mac Finder, there's an eject disk menu choice, too.

There are drawbacks to Macs, however...not as much software and games are ported to that platform, and the ones that are aren't always as stable as they are on their native OS. Some websites and services are not Mac compatible. A Mac can't open an .exe, even though they ARE useless. Just .zip the damn thing and send it to me, for the love of god, why wrap it up in an .exe?? In the case of Macromedia Flash, there's a 'projector' option to allow people who don't have Flash to play Flash files, yet I see SO many of them in .exe form.

The low end Macs do require all hardware to be peripheral. That's good and bad...for novice or limited computer use, you're not paying for something you don't need, but you WILL decide you need it sooner or later. And that damn hockey puck mouse DID suck.

Up until OS 9, there was no way to allow for multiple users of the same computer or allow different privileges to those users. I think that was a major sticking point.

Oh, and Macs are FAR less vulnerable to viruses. The I Love You virus for Mac went on the honor system. You had to randomly delete some of your system files and then forward it. :D

I could go on, but my soapbox is caving in.

My opinion? Use what you like, but don't trash ME for doing it, and I won't trash you.

Now waiiiiit a minute, Patryn. The pentagon regards all supercomputers to be "strategic technology" to which it applies export restrictions. The particular restriction in question prevents computers from being exported to tier 3 countries is based on a computer standard for running at a minimum of four billion theoretical operations per second.

http://www.bxa.doc.gov/HPCs/HPCfrNotice.htm

G4s have been tested to run (barely) at a peak of 4 billion operations per second but never stable and never sustained. Also take note that the restriction applies to 800+ mhz Intel and AMD chipsets as well.

So by Apple's convoluted sense of reasoning, yes, the pentagon applies restrictions to prevent g4s and other high-end commercial processors from being exported to tier 3 countries. However, I believe that the word "weapon" came out of the mouths of the Apple's marketting division and not any government official.

But hey! Who cares what the pentagon thinks. The gaming industry considers macs and mac os to be a mere afterthought in game development and that's what counts.

They advertized based on it, yes. It's not wrong to market a product. I do agree with you that the G4 is not the only computer with those restrictions on it, but who did it first?

And you also just proved that Apple chipsets have faster clock speeds than Intel/AMD chipsets.

*puffs out chest feeling pride for her Apple G4*

Hey guys...stop gawking. :)

I have a PC now, but used a Power MAC for 2 years. The one thing I liked about the MAC is that it is made for non-computer people like me. I also did not have the problem with viruses that I have now. I keep thinking I will have this stuff figures out some day. I used to have Eudora as my email program & now use Outlook Express which sucks sewer water. I looked into the Barbie computer as I am a Barbie collector, but I know a lot of people who were not happy with it. I had the BArbie digital camera, but returned it as the pictures were awful. I am waiting for the digital cameras to go on sale, I want a digital camera in the worse way, but got to save some money first.
