Of late, Atlanta frequently came into my sight. I like to talk about it without checking google, baidu or bing for further information.
First, it was the Nth-time repeat translation into Chinese of the most famous novel in history of the world, “Gone with the Wind”, in which the city of Georgia was transliterated as “a place of hungry wolves”, perhaps the translator wanted to make a special impression on his readers.
Second, I remember it is where the headquarter of world top drink company Coca-Cola is located, for which I was very proud to know better than many others, because almost all Chinese people or people around the world believe it is located in New York or LA.
Third, I remember the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where China’ s Women Football Team had nearly taken the championship from the hand of the US. But that this sports event was hosted in Atlanta was a victory not so glorious because it was snatched away (with bribe) from Greece, the origin of Olympic Games, for the would-be 100- year anniversary celebration of the game.
Fourth, Atlanta is also the corporate of CNN, and I still remember that a few years back CNN reported that some protesters were burning its signs in front of or even inside the company building, making the reporting very convenient at hand but very embarrassing in face.
Last but not least, yesterday many mainstream Chinese media outlets reported that a huge campus violence between police and students and faculty broke out in a college of Atlanta for the issue of Hamas and Israel, in which a woman professor was brought down by force, her face knocked at the hard concrete road surface and her glasses thrown away. She tried at the top of her voice to make her identity known by the two law enforcement officers who were busy themselves to lock her hands and kneel on her body, but was totally ignored. Perhaps it was a fake report intended to humiliate the visiting Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who, along with the ambassador, was taken to a tourist resort garden in Shanghai to have some fun, but that place with so many high-pricing consumption and low quality service, is not supposed to be for entertaining real friends, if you ask any local people.
