I go to the gym to workout ....

Most times I am focussed on what I am doing, while resting between sets my eyes have been known to wander (hey this is Lit, what do you expect?)

Anyhow, I often get to see people in some "unguarded moments" - mainly 'up-the-shorts-leg' (male & female) or the occasional 'down-the-top' or 'from-the-side-of-the arm-hole' view of females etc.

Was wondering, do people dress to give these 'accidental flashes' intentionally or are they just that - accidental flashes ?

How do you dress for the gym ?

I suspect they are mostly accidental. Working out requires freedom of motion and it generally is hot, so air circulation is important. Both of those factors mitigate towards loose-fitting, very open clothes. Were we in private and not societally conditioned to worry about people seeing us, I suspect a lot of people would prefer to work out naked! (Wouldn't that make a great theme-gym? Adults only!) :D

Personally, I work out in a pair of sweat shorts and a tshirt. If I DO give a woman a quick flash up the leg, that's fine. Especially if she comes over and says hi!

I usually think I look terrible when I work out. It's nice to know that someone could get something out of it!

Hot!

I gotta admit I find those down the top and especially the up the shorts leg peeks really HOT! ;)

But I think they are pretty much all accidental.
At least, that's what I keep telling myself. ;)

I think it depends on your gym to be honest. When I go to work out I am lost in workout mode. I could care less what people see. Honestly, I rarely am looking at other people because I'm so focused on what I'm doing. I'm sure from time to time, when I'm not wearing cycling clothing to the gym (many times I ride right before I lift) I've given people up leg shots.

I've always found that the gym was a great place to meet women. You know she cares about her body and probably has a positive attitude about life. I've always wondered about how to tell if a woman wants to be hit on at the gym. Here are some factors I have followed:

1. If her outfit matches her sneakers- YES
2. If she is wearing any jewlery (except for a wedding band!)-YES
3. If she is wearing headphones-NO
4. If she is dressed in dumpy clothes-NO
5. If she smells too good to be at the gym-YES
6. If she is working out with a guy-NO
7. If she is showing a lot of cleavage- YES

More factors would be appreciated!

These are really good. I have a few more:
8. WHILE she's working out on the abductor/adductor machine-NO
9. If she wears weightlifting gloves-NO
10. If she uses the mirrors to check her makeup instead of her form-YES

I'd also like to add one thing. It's not that women who are really there to work out don't want guys to talk to us, we'd just rather you wait until after we're showered and dressed...then we don't feel like we're on display. That would be the perfect time to ask if you can buy us a smoothie:)

Some women go to the gym to meet guys. They are dressed nicely, wearing makeup and have their hair done. Others, like me, just want to work out. We are the ones who look like we just rolled out of bed. Don't hit on us. It's really annoying.

LOL exactly

before I moved to the place I am living now (which has its own gym in the building), I went to a very very chic gym in Soho - so a really really high percentage of the members there were incredibly fashionable gay men. Which was great for me, as it meant I didn't have to deal with getting hit on, but yet had loads of waaaaay gorgeous guys to check out. Nice!

My first view of a pussy was actually an accidental up-the-leg peek! :D It wasn't at the gym, but I still remember it distinctly.

I have just joined a new gym where they have a 'ladies only' section.

well thats no fun at all...

i joined the gym not too long ago with the sole intention of working out. boy boy have things changed LOL.

all the booty jigglin and such distracts me too much. I almost fell on the treadmill. It was so embarrassing

A gym is the absolute LAST place I'd even bother to try to pick someone up. I know I go there to work out & I'm sure many of the other folks that go there do likewise. If it so happens that I meet someone who attends the same gym as I do, then it's entirely different.

The gym is a personal time for me (that sounded so selfish!) to exercise & unwind. I'm not there to steal a glance or even overtly ogle. If I happen to catch a glance of somethig attractive from across the way I try not to make it too obvious. And if someone sees me in all my glory- I hope they enjoy the scene too, but sure as hell don't leer at me.

I tend to agree; I wouldn't consider the gym a good place to try to pick up a date. Due largely to the clothes (or lack thereof) that most people are wearing, we already feel on display and vulnerable enough. That feeling tends to produce a defensive attitude, leading to a strong negative response from someone trying to make a move. Such feelings seem to be more common among women, which is one reason why "women only" gyms or sections exist.

Now I've always wondered about those "Women Only" gyms... couldn't they still be pick up places for gay women? The one I've seen around here just looks a little on the rough & tumble side (if you can describe a gym as being "too butch").

I've heard of certain gyms where it's ladies day & men's days to help ease that awkward tension but I've always wondered if an exclusive one gender gym works well or not.

I guess expecting people to be civil in such an environment can be too much at times.

Well my "Women Only" gym works well. Its a gym within a gym.

So far I can't say I've noticed it being a pick up place for gay women, but as I'm not gay maybe I'm not tuned in enough to notice.

If it helps to partition off a certain section of the gym to be women only then I can see where it'd be fine & a near amicable solution.

It still perturbs me to see idiots of both genders at my gym trying to strike up conversations with people when they're working out. We're all huffing & puffing & the last thing I'd want to do is waste any additional breath to talk to you at that moment. It's true when they say timing is everything!

I really don't care who is working out at the same time, man or woman, as long as they leave me alone.

I vant to be alone. At least at the gym. I agree with LE, it's personal time.

And then there's that OTHER kind of personal time...woo hoo!

At the sports center where I go to swim, there are 'women only' days/time slots in both the pool and the gym, partly because there is a very large Muslim community here and so there is that 'seperation' thing. I have to say, I do find the 'women only' times enjoyable though, there is definitely a much more relaxed vibe about the place without the testosterone cloud hanging in the air. (Not that I don't like testosterone clouds, it's just that I prefer them at other times, in other places;) )

I go to a women's only gym and I love it! I don't go to the gym to pick up guys or even to have conversations with them. I'm either there to work out (if I'm on the machines) or to do some deep thinking (if I'm using the treadmill or bikes). Besides, in my loose fitting workout pants, overly big t-shirt, hair haphazardly pulled up into a pony tail, and sweaty, un-made up face, I'm about as unattractive as a woman could possibly get!

As far as gay women, I really don't know. The women I've seen conversing seem to know each other. The showers are rarely used - most just leave when their done and shower at home. (I do this) There are some women there who look a little more butch I suppose. But they are simply friendly with almost all women. Besides, the neighborhood where I usually go is full of "soccer moms" so that is who usually there.

Frankly, I can't imagine feeling comfortable in a gym where there are both men and women. No, nothing sexist, as in the sexes should be/must be separated. Most people don't have issues with it and that's fine. But I like going to a place where there is only women and I don't have to concern myself with unwanted attention.

I think working out is such a personal thing, we bristle at the idea of being bothered by another human being at those moments. If I want conversation I'll find it. The most annoying people are the ones that still insist on talking to you even if you have your headset on (I just roll my eyes at times when I think about them)

The coed gym where my friend works out has resorted to banning all cell phones. They were having a problem with members, mostly the male ones, using the phones that can take pictures to snap inappropriate shots of the women as they worked out.
