So I am procrastinating and chit chatting while I study for my Astronomy 101 test tomorrow. Anyone here a fan of the subject? Not even the class per say, from simple star watching up to anyone around here who might have a doctorate in astrophysics, feel free to discuss!

I enjoy the subject so far to be honest; That might change after tomorrow if I bomb the test, but it is pretty interesting. That being said I would never dream of going beyond a 101 class which is all I need for my science cred anyways. I think the history, theories, and random facts are all interesting. Once you get into the physics, trig, calc, and other page long formulas of numbers and letters that make my mind want to explode I bow out. It would be a grave understatement to say that math is not exactly my thing. So far it has been a fun subject though! (knock on wood).

Are you ready for the solar eclipse this Sunday? ;)

Ah yeah, it is gonna be pretty sweet. Some real world hands on stuff that is fun and interesting will be pretty neat. At the moment myself and the moon are not on terribly good terms. I am supposed to be drawing it each night, but it is always cloudy so I have to set my alarm for 4am and go out then. Woke up this morning and it was thundering and lightning like crazy, said f this and went back to bed. I am so not a morning person.

I miss the Moon the other night because of clouds.....blaaaaaaa.....

There are some great podcasts you can listen to. Short ones and long ones. I use Stitcher on my Droid phone for them.

StarDate (about a minute)
EarthSky (90 seconds)
SkyWatch and HubbleWatch (4 minutes)
Astronomy Cast (1 hour)
Planetary Radio (29 minutes)
Whyy's SkyTalk (8 minutes)
NASA Edge (1 minute)
NASA Sun Earth Day (1 minute)
Star Stuff with Stuart Gary ( 29 minutes)

Probably more available, but those are good. I tend to put the earbuds in and listen to them while making/eating breakfast.

Astronomy 101 was the most fun class ever. 102 sucked so much I dropped it. All Physics. Love the stars!

Don't be stupid, that's for talking to my dead parrot.

Do I have to teach you people everything?

It would seem that us real astronomers are a rare breed in here - all the best with your studies - I thought I'd do it as a profession, enough to persevere with postgrad studies - and then switched to computer stuff when i realised the astro was never going to pay for a house :)

some real worlds hands on stuff - yes, thats what we're all here for ;-)

I am so not a morning person.

An excellent starting point - I tell people I am a professionally trained and qualified insomniac, thats why they get emails at 3am...

catch you on yahoo Sugar...
