Help wanted! Do you have a working grasp of Spanish or even come from a Spanish-speaking country? I'd like to run a few bits of my latest story by you and see if it holds up to at least movie script standards of butchering your fine language.

Interested? Send me a PM please and we'll talk.

Gracias!

Been there. You absolutely want a fluent speaker in both languages to get that right. Translations and even formal education don't do the trick. Too much nuance and slang that you don't get from those avenues.

I'll probably be going back to my source soon, as I've got a few placeholders in a running story for some Spanglish that I'll need to have vetted.

*Makes note to self to check out Mud & Magic, as I've been playing the series since III came out, and fairly recently completed IX and X for the first time*

Still have my New World Computing keychain/bottle opener I got for completing World of Xeen somewhere, along with the certificate :D

Yup, that's why I posted the help request - simply resarching the name of the ship my hero is flying nearly derailed the whole thing. Stuff like the whole Consuelo/Consuela naming issue.

Also, you're probably referring to Might&Magic. The story is not based on the CRPGs (there are more Diablo Easter Eggs hidden in the early chapters than M&M) but when I noticed the similarity in the naming scheme, I ran with it. Played III, IV+V (World Of Xeen - Elinger and his boot fetish!), VI, VII and a bit of X, plus all "Heroes Of..." up until V.

By the way, did you do a whole lot of Dragon Quest walkthroughs over on GameFAQs?

Not a lot of DQ. I think I only posted one of them to Gamefaqs for DQ 1&2 SNES back when there was no translation available. It's been so long that I'm not sure if I posted any of the others there. Most of mine were either on my own website, or on Dustin's Dragon Warrior/Quest Shrine, which I hosted and coded for.

( Went and checked. That was the only one I added to Gamefaqs, along with one for the arcade game Gladiator )

My sister was bigger into the Heroes line. I've never done more than fiddled with those. I've actually completed all ten main games now. I played through 1 & 2 finally in the early 2000s when they came out packaged with VI, which I play through about once a year.

There's nothing quite as satisfying as coming back to New Sorpigal with the Fly spell and Starburst, then flying around luring all the goblins on the peninsula into a giant knot below you, and obliterating them all at once. LOL

I've recently bought the first three Dragon Quests for the Switch and did a double take when your Darknicad (sp?) name popped up on the walkthrough for DQ1+2.

*chuckles* I've played the M&M games, but didn't exactly finish them. My CD-Rom version of World of Xeen for example had a nasty bug which crashed the game randomly when changing worlds/discs. Annoyed the living heck out of me back then and I have no idea if the GoG version fixed that. Also, I tend to get fatally side-tracked.

As for "once-a-year" games, I have two. Final Fantasy VII and Wizardry 7+8. Although in all honesty, I'm lacking the patience for "Crusaders of the Dark Savant's" particular brand of masochism nowadays.

GoG fixes everything about the MM series. It even makes IX playable, and it was a horrific travesty upon release. Uses some "fan" patches that were supported by original developers who felt horrible about what was released.

Not a great installment, but when you've completed 8 out of 10...

You can even play the old DOS games like 1 & 2 flawlessly on a Win10 PC. That is no small feat.

Yep, same Darkniciad. If you're ever on an IPBoard forum that uses the attack system and see the credits, that's me as well.

I'm sure the version of II on the Switch is the balanced version. The original NES version is a bear with horrific difficulty spikes, and the end of the game is a death gauntlet. Getting to the final dungeon is the most difficult part of the game. Once you get there, it's a relief to not have everything spamming instant death spells every other round.

There are a few minor errors in those FAQs, and they were written for the untranslated SNES combo, but they'll serve reasonably well on any version of the game.

If you haven't played DQ 8 or 11, those are the pinnacles of the series. Other than not having the symphonic soundtrack, the 3DS version of 8 is pure joy with all the added content over the original.

If you ever decide to venture into the behemoth that is 7, absolutely go with the 3DS version or a port of it. The experience is dramatically improved on almost every level.

Since I'm going way off topic because I can't stop myself when it comes to MM and DQ, I'll put in a reminder here:

THIS IS A REQUEST FOR A SPANISH SPEAKER - PLEASE SEE POST #1. :D
