No, you are not a freak. As with every sexual practice, anal sex just 'works' for some people and not for others. If you don't like it, for ANY reason, you don't have to do it. (And you sure as heck shouldn't put up with any guy who says otherwise!)

Given your experiences, I can certainly understand why you don't like it. And particularly since you've tried it several times, your decision is an informed one and therefore even MORE understandable.

Some people (male or female) are just not anally erotic. That's all. It feels intensely wonderful for some people while it is merely annoying or irritating for others.

One suggestion I would have for novices is to take some time to explore yourself. Use fingers, toys, whatever, just take some time to get acquainted with your body.

Some people have a bend or kink in the rectum, and any kind of anal insertion beyond an inch or so hurts no matter what. That's obviously something you have to take seriously, because injury is a real possibility. Listen to your ass--it knows best. And checking with your doctor might be a good idea.
