Okay, when a seed germinates, how does it tell up from down? It has to make the roots go down and the sprout go up, so how can the seed tell the difference?

Someone explained it to me once, it took them three days to detail the process. but it seems to come down to gravity the roots are heaveier than the stems and they both can't gorow in the same direction.
