You should get one with the full keyboard. I'm getting fairly good at texting. I can't make calls at work very often, but I can pound out a text while the kids are taking a quiz. I always spell out all the words and use proper punctuation.

Oddly, IM is the only medium I let things slip in. I don't normally capitalize and leave periods off ending sentences. Oh, and use emoticons. It's all about getting what you mean across and trying to allude to tone and feeling.
