I am sure that you are asked this often, but do you have a list or recommendations for online counseling services geared towards Trans individuals? There are quite a few therapist in my area, unfortunately, few of them have any experience in that area

With coronavirus raging the way it is I'm sure most counselling is online. PM me with where you are and lets see what we can dig up between us.

As is the case with choosing any counsellor, don't go by what letters are on their door, but rather how easily you can relate and speak to them.

Trans and Sports

I'm sure there's already discussion about trans folk in sports somewhere in this blog...

Very weirdly, I'm indebted to Mr Trump Jr for bringing a topic to my attention. Save to say he fucked it up because he's an asshole, but I did find the outcome of an extensive study into the affects of hormone treatments related to sports performance ( which was not paid for by the Dems ).

Here's the link to a study by the British Journal of Sports Medicine, which confusingly studied individuals in the USAF over a number of years.

TLDR = it was recommended for Olympic competitions, trans women should have undergone testosterone suppressing treatment for two years prior to competing assuming the athlete transitioned as an adult after puberty. Anyone who transitioned medically before or during puberty ( fat chance of that in the UK now of course ) will have no benefit.

For amateur sports, it suggests a year is enough.

It's kinda funny, in regards of who performed the study. I would have expected the research to come from some Olympic oversight committee or sports organization not the military. I almost want to dish out the 37 USD to read it in its entirety.

I suspect the choice was because the individuals had their fitness records detailed and they were easily traced/followed up after transition. Fitness is fitness but yes, ironic that the US military were involved in a British study

Not trying to sound unpatriotic but we as a country will but into the business of others from time to time. Still fascinating.

The other thing to make the study meaningful was to have enough people to study. The US has x6 population and a much bigger military so that makes sense from a statistical pov too.

I see Biden has swept away the ban on trans in the military :)

I saw that. I imagine it will piss off just as many people as the ban itself. At least for now I say yay

The whole period thing

I just need to put this out there because an online friend is about to have her period - I know because she had one around Christmas. So I feel creepy about knowing she's started her period now, but I feel so guilty about not having my own periods. I've never mentioned this before, because talking about it makes it sound like 'me,me,me' - you know, like if you meet someone who's lost a leg and you show them your appendix scar by way of conversation.

But what can you say to a cis gender woman about periods? It's like pointing at the sky and apologising if blue isn't your colour and maybe green would be better?

So yes, I'm guilty I don't have a uterus and don't have periods. I can't have my own children but I'll hug the crap out of yours.

Trans women make the best gfs because of our guilt. But we do make you fruity tea, and hot water bottles and put a hand on your back and hold your feet and don’t grumble when you wake us up in the middle of the night when you’re in such cramping pain. We can be quiet in the next room, or sit by the bed and read you stories and we fucking love buying your pads or tampons. So there’s that.

Also we’re fun people to have around and be goofy. And we play guitar

Aw, that's so sweet. I already had a crush on you...

We could exchange songs while the cis-girls moan. I'll start with 'Piazza New York Catcher' by Belle and Sebastian...

That is so beautiful and relatable. We can eat a whole tub of ice cream together and watch movies starring my all time super secret crush. Ok I don't menstrate either but I want a slumber party.

Periods?

I prefer commas, and run-on sentences, and people whose words you always look forward to reading.

Another coming out
Okay I hadn't heard of this lady before but she has 50k subscribers. This video is a bit preachy but she makes some sound points about the inequality of health care in the UK and ( didn't know this ) that conversion therapy isn't illegal in the UK?! wtf?!

I gather her vlog is about philosophy and literature so it's not an area that would have popped onto my radar. Worth a look :)

well

Since you ask. :) VERY kind and nice of you to offer, BTW.
A friend of ours, MtF TG, long post surgery, said to me when my wife was not in the room, in what seemed to me to be a somewhat bragging tone, "I have a pussy!" There was a good deal of emphasis on the "I". I was dumbfounded and silent and the subject hasn't been broached again. Any thoughts?
And thank you again for the offer and any thought you might have.

Ha... well I suppose I can understand her enthusiasm and I had to avoid oversharing the information once I had one. I had to think twice in the student union LGBT office when I was on the point of hitching up my dress :D

As for your friend? Maybe she has long since bitten her tongue and hopes, vainly, that you have forgotten. I'm sure if there was more to say it would have been said by now. Something to make you chuckle though, huh? :)

Yes, though chuckle wasn't the first thought. Now, it is possible. :) Could not for the life of me think of a single, solitary thing to say at the time.
Thank you.

This is probably a dumb question, but what is the difference between Gender Queer and Non-binary? I have looked up the definitions of both, but I am struggling to understand the distinction.
