The recent earthquakes happening in Gansu and Qinghai provinces of China saw the quickest response of enormous relief work of China's People's Liberation Army and the Armed Police, which is unimaginable in other countries including the US, where no rapid rescue operations could be made available by the US three services to the Hawaii wild fire and other disasters.

The withdrawal of military capability by the UK from the South Atlantic is what encouraged the Argentinian invasion of the Falklands/Malvinas. The economically and politically weak Argentinian regime saw their chance to bolster support with an invasion of islands long since abandoned by that country (but giving them a coast facing Antarctica in case of a future land grab there).

Taiwan is a similar distance from China as Cuba from the US, the US has interfered constantly in the affairs of Cuba and still maintains a base there. So long as the US maintains a capability in the region, China will likely refrain from striking at Taiwan, but they play a long game there that American politics doesn't understand.
