Elected officials? They DO have positions where that MIGHT be appropriate. Aides. Office admin. Whatever.

But NOT into permament positions - those should all be thru normal non-political hiring processes wjere they are NOT involved at all. There shouldn't actually be any political input into those decisions at all. and being related should be a bar to even being considered IMHO. I'm not sure how that works now tho. so that's just uninformed opinion on my part. I'd probably be shocked if I knew what really want on.

But your way would reek of corruption & nothing would get done. Every time a new POTUS is elected EVERYONE with a government job would be fired and new people would have to be hired.

Nah. stop putting words into my mouth. LOL

We have around 8000 political appointments now I think, and each Prez can fill those. I think given all the resistance, Trump is looking to make more of those senior positions political. Shouldn't have been necessary but when permament employees go political, that's what happens. They get political. With a strictly neutral fed govt there to follow directions apolitically, it shouldn't be necessary, but it is. Best is to just gut the federal govt the way Trump is doing and reduce it to the bare essentials. That way it matters less. Of course, the issue then devolves down to State Govts, which can be even more corrupt. But the impact at the State level is more local.

Well it's not MY way. Those 8000 political appointments are what it is now. I can see why they're necessary. With a very strictly apolotitical federal service they shouldn't be, but it is what it is. And our system is VERY political. We elect all sorts of positions that in other countries are non-political civil service positions. Judges, for example. Electoral officers. Sheriffs. It's part of our system but also a cause of some of the issues we experience at the same time.
