Going through the files here I was surprised to find this and replies. Art isa phony who I also once respected like you but now find him a big bore.
He had some serious problems. His son was kidnapped and sexually molested. Not sure whether this has anything to do with it but I can cut him some slack. He at the very least is entertaining, at least to me. If you don't like him, there is a new invention, they call it the off button.

A lot of people have problems, that still does not not give them the right to promote a fraud on the people like he has.
This is an old post which I am shock to see come back but I am glad it did. I did listen to him for a bit when he came back and another switched to another late night host after a week.
I once respected him but when he went "big time" I saw Bell sell out fast and quick.

What was the fraud you think he helped perpetrate? If it was the Y2K issue, I don't consider that a fraud, just hysteria and over reaction by lots of people who are fear mongers.
And it got lots of headlines, sold lots of papers and books, great marketing ploy. Made money for a bunch of people of the hysterical. But Fraud? I really don't think so.
You gotta remember what Barnum said years ago. Time has not dulled the wisdom of his observation.

He made a forture on Y2K with guys like Gary North and others. And do not forget the whole Hale-Bopp thing a year or so before.
Then the Monday after New Year's he is on the Today Show hyping a new book on earth changes and did not say one thing about Y2Nothing.
I feel that since he talks to millions of people a night and makes a lot of money doing it, Art should act in a way that is befitting the postion. The UFO stuff can be interesting but not letting it go all over the place. He hurt talk radio.
And yes, I do not listen to him any more.
