When the officers opened the patrol car door, they found Carter in a “sitting position slumped forward with his head in his lap.” The report indicated that Carter was still handcuffed and a small caliber handgun was sitting beside him.

Carter was taking to St. Bernards Regional Medical Center and later died from the gunshot wound.

Authorities in Jonesboro suspect that Carter shot himself in the head but his mother, Teresa Carter, isn’t buying it.

“I think they killed him, my son wasn’t suicidal,” she explained to WREG, adding that police told her he was shot in his right temple, even though her son was left handed.

“I just want to know what really happened,” Teresa Carter said. “That’s all I want to know.”

Left handed? Handcuffed?

they could've handcuffed him in front, but that would be a really fucking stupid thing for them to do.

Everyone so far is sticking by this story and the cops are on leave with pay and there hasn't been the huge national outrage you typically get with this stuff. Kinda has the feel of truth to it. Weird and suspect for sure but strange shit happens all the time and criminals aren't known for being smart.

Thought it sounded familiar...

The death of Michael Taylor

Youth shot while handcuffed in police cruiser

Updated: 4-18-2000

On Sept. 24, 1987, Michael Taylor, a 16-year-old auto theft suspect, was shot in the head as he sat in an Indianapolis police cruiser with his hands cuffed behind his back. He died a day later.

Police investigators concluded Taylor shot himself with a gun he had somehow concealed, and the coroner ruled the death a suicide. The FBI and a private investigator hired by local black ministers also concluded that Taylor shot himself.

However, in 1996 a civil jury in Hancock County rejected those findings and concluded police were responsible for Taylor's death. The jury awarded Taylor's family $3.5 million, but that amount was later reduced to $2.6 million.

On March 8, 2000, Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson said the city would not appeal the judgment.

an allegation Carter’s mother, Teresa Carter has questioned.

“I think they killed him, my son wasn’t suicidal,” she told WREG-TV, noting that her son was left-handed.

Where was he hiding the gun? The cop searched him?
