Okay that might have come out wrong...or maybe not. You see the problem is I'm in the middle of the last chapter of a novel and I just can't get my head in it. I know what's supposed to happen in the scene. I know how it will end, but I've spent so much time dealing with the romance and tragic part that the gritty vengeance is falling flat.

I need something, music, a movie, anything. Just something that will give me that bit of edge I need. I don't know if anyone has a clue as to what I'm talking about.

When I get that way, I close up the piece and work on something else.
Leaving it for a day or so helps clear my head.

You do realize that no one here can answer that question, don't you--and that you've only come here and asked the question to take a breather away from a hurdle only you can get over (which is OK, as long as you realize that's what you're doing and that you're not actually going to get any more than distracted here)?

Of course, you're now likely to get a whole lot of distracting advice that probably won't actually help you with the slight bobble in being able to steam ahead on it.

Distracted? Here? :)

Yikes! That was cute. Made me laugh but not dark enough. Thanks anyway, helped relieve some stress.

I was thinking of that, but I've been procrastinating on this for days. I don't usually let stress affect my writing. Usually whatever mindframe I need to be in it happens. Kinda stuck now and I'm not used to it. Guess I'm not immune to the hurdles, which to think I was is pure arrogance :(

Good advice, and you know what? You're probably right. The reason I was asking (besides the ones you've stated) was that I was hoping that maybe the right audio or visual stimulus would help. Probably fooling myself. Need to get my head in the game. Maybe I'll try reading over the last chapter to remind myself what got the character to this point.

The Butler did it ?

I like to think of the scenario as, 'How much vengence is required? How nasty do I want it to be? Does it make sense in the action/character concept? Which movie comes to mind when I imagine my character doing it? Movie score? Which music runs through your head as you write the scene? The answer is in your mind, where you least expect it. Hope that helps Hon:rose:
