Aretha Franklin

Yeah. :)

(I got worried for a moment - thought she'd passed away!)

Damn, sorry about that. It only struck me after I posted the thread title. I do wish we had the ability to edit those.

Scared me too.

That's okay; it's a reminder to enjoy her before we have to mourn her.

Did you know she once stood in for Pavarotti, at his request, and performed Nessun Dorma? I saw her interviewed about it after his death. She had three days to rehearse with a classical voice instructor. She was terrified, of course. Opera purists might have eaten her alive. But Pavarotti came up on stage to lead the ovation.

I'd love to hear that performance. Maybe Google will turn up something.

No worries.

You know you can edit those in the first minute or so? I've done it.

After that you're screwed.

:D

Ya scared me too... bad horsie. I'd pull out the flogger, but I'm not sure that would actually be a "punishment".

Yes we are all connected together with links made of moonbeams and baby's breath. That can be sundered with a sigh and sealed with a heartfelt smile.

Sheesh!

Got me too Shang!

Ain't you got no R-E-S-P-E-C-T for us Aretha fans? ;)

Of course it would, Belegon. Of course it would. Trust the nice horsey. ;)

On the other hand I much prefer Mario Lanza's Nessun Dorma. Dusty Springfield's Son of a preacher man. Sher's Walking in Memphis.

And Roger Chapman's Baby Blue.

Oops. I meant Cher not Shereads. Although Sheread's version is damn fine too.

Cher did a version too? *shudders* I wish people would stop messing with that song. No one will ever sing it half as well as Mark Cohn.

Cher gives me hives.

Who else has been humming "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and has no idea why?

You, too?

I thought it was because my summer tan is fading.

Possibly because you glommed that while looking up mario lanza on Utube I couldn't resist finding a couple of Robin Trower memories too.
