The new shingles vaccines is a two parter: the first one is 1/3 strength, just enough to trigger the alarm bells in your system that a new virus is here. It jumpstarts production of anti-virals in your bloodstream.

The second shot is the worst shot you will ever have in your fucking life. Not going to sugarcoat it....it is bad. You will be incapacitated for 48-72 hours. If you have stuff on the upper shelf in your pantry, take the stuff down before hand....you won't be able to reach it at all, even with your non-vaccinated arm.

As bad as it is, getting active shingles is worse. So just schedule the second shot on a Friday afternoon and plan on watching TV all weekend.

Pro-tip: Make damned sure you're getting the second generation shingles vaccine ("Shingrix"). It is the only two-shot Shingles vaccine, with an efficacy rate of 95%. If you are offered a "single shot shingles vaccine", TURN IT DOWN. That is the older obsolete live virus "Zostavax" (or "ZVL") vaccine. The single shot is no longer manufactured, pharmacies keep some in stock for pain sissies (think: BoBo, Derpy)....it doesn't hurt much at all, but has an efficacy rate of something like 40% (meaning you will still have a 60% chance of Shingle some time in your life).

Praise to Allah that this shot regime is "one and done", once you've completed the two shot protocol, you never have to do it again.

I had to get my pneumonia vaccine updated last November because some locals on the Rez were getting hospitalized with a new strain.

As of next Monday, healthcare will be taking giant steps backwards. Abandoning the science of infectious diseases and epidemiology is not a joke. Nor is taking away access to health insurance.

It depends what the vaccines are.

Believe me, you do not ever ever ever want to get tetanus. Or Polio. Those are two shots you should have regardless of anything. People forget just how vaccines have made a difference. They are useful and they save lives. You just have to do your own assessment of the risks vs the benefits and also, if you are going to get vaccine shots, look at how and when you take them and look at what you can do or take to minimize the after effects. The Covid "vaccine" really skewed people's attitudes to vaccinations. Most of them ARE beneficial, and most of them are safe. You just don't want to overload your body with a whole bunch of them at once. Honestly, the positives far far outweigh the negatives, especially with the older vaccines for things that used to kill people all the time in the good old days.

My mom's a Traditional Chinese Medical doctor, and when I was a kid, I got all my vaccinations, but my mom spread them out and she also used acupuncture and chinese herbal teas to mitigate any effects - I never had any reactions at all to any of the shots I got and I swear by acupuncture - I have seen what my mom does and how she treats people and it's really effective - but no substitute for vaccines or pharmaceutical drugs. Two different medical theories that can really complement each other. So if you're concerned about being bad for your body, think about that as an approach that will help your body deal with the impact of vaccinations.

My suggestion's as above. Find a good Chinese Medical Practitioner and talk to them before getting the shingles shot and see what they would suggest doing to alleviate the impact. Acupuncture for pain relief after the vaccine shot might help.

I wouldn't mix chinese herbal medicine with vaccines tho - some of those herbal medicines are quite strong and there's very little research on how they interact with things like western medicines and vaccines. I trust my mom on chinese herbal medicine - she taught it at a Chinese Medical School for 5 years - but I wouldn't recommend trying it from anyone else at all. LOL. It's very very complex and most TCM doctors know the basics but aren't really into anything other than doing it by the book.

Guess what asshole, your rights end where mine begin. It's pretty simple. Don't want to get vaccinated, fine. But if your lack of vaccinations cause me problems...then.

I think those who spread a disease that is 100% preventable should have to pay the cost of that choice when their disease affects another. Kind of like those tobacco companies are now paying billions for causing cancer....
