WHY DASCHLE REFUSES TO ALLOW A SENATE VOTE ON MAKING THE TAX CUTS PERMANENT.

First – you do know that all of those tax cuts passed last year will expire in 2010, don’t you? Some of these tax cuts won’t fully phase in for several more years .. and just a few years after they’re completely phased in, they will expire. What happens then? Taxes will go up. In one day they’ll go up their level prior to Bush’s tax cut.

Maybe you already knew that. Maybe you already knew that these tax cuts expired in 2010, and that tax rates would return to previous levels. But … did you know that this 2010 increase in tax rates would be the largest tax increase in the history of The United States? Don’t you know the Democrats just LOVE the sound of that!

OK .. so why won’t Daschle allow a vote on that bill to make the tax cuts permanent? After all, it’s already passed the house, so what’s the problem with allowing a vote in the Senate?

Twelve Democrats. That’s Daschle’s problem. His control of the Senate is on the line in November. He’s holding on by one seat. He could be losing by one seat when the election is over. He has to do everything he can to protect the 12 Democrats who voted for Bush’s tax cuts. Daschle knows that if these 12 Democrats vote to make the tax cuts permanent he will have lost this particular battle. The tax cuts will be permanent. Point – match – game – Bush.

Now … what happens if these 12 Democrats don’t vote to make the tax cuts permanent? Many of these Democrats are up for reelection this year. How do they explain to their constituents in an election year that, sure – they did vote for the tax cuts but they don’t want them to be permanent? Daschle knows that this might cost some of these Democrats the election, maybe even Tim Johnson .. the Junior Senator from South Dakota! This wonderous event would mean that Daschle moves over to the minority side of the Senate.

So, what is the best way to protect these Democrats? Refuse to allow a vote. Daschle isn’t up for reelection this year – so he can obstruct the vote and protect his buds.

Todd, when will you finally admit you want to be a citizen of the U.S.?

Well.... Blair and Brown's 'No tax increase' policy is going out the window now they've raised National Insurance contributions for employers, employees and the self-employed by 1%

Nope, you haven't. Yet.;) Work harder.

There's no telling what will happen to the tax code between now and 2010 so making the tax cuts permanent is a borderline non issue. I'm assuming that Daschle was against the tax cuts before they passed so why should we be suprised that he hasn't changed his mind?

Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad idea

You are a pawn of Rush Limbaugh. Wake up.

First, the old law goes back into effect 1/1/2011.

Maybe the tax cut permancy issue is just a fucking stupid stupid idea.

The tax cuts are a mirage. They largely do not yet exist. Let's take the Estate Tax ?abolition?. Revenues from the estate tax are to go from $10 billion to $110 billion from 2001 to 2011. With the baby boomers retiring at the same time, where the hell is the US going to get the money to pay their social security checks? It can?t happen.

Do you know what is in the social security trust fund? Do you know how much is in there? I will tell you. Zip. Zero. Nada. Nothing. There is no money. There are a lot of IOU?s. We are back to deficits now. That trend will not change, and will get worse, if georgy?s plan is put in place. In his dad?s administration, the deficits were so bad, countries like Japan and others around the world refused to negotiate with us on international trade issues. We had no clout. They told us to get our deficit down, then they would talk.

We built up five TRILLION in debt. FIVE TRILLION. The number finally started to go down. I am embarrassed to have such an imbecile for a president. I doubt he can balance his checkbook.

We are all (your country too, Toddy) going to be in trouble if this passes. George does nothing without checking Clinton?s policies, and then he tries to do the opposite. The question is, will he learn the recent lesson of the middle east, that doing the opposite of Clinton is not always right, or will he continue to fuck things up by not using his head. He might try reading another book.

The post above was by me, unintentionally not logged in. You know Todd, after reading it, I hate to be mean, but I frankly don't think you or the people who talk about this stuff like you are looking at any facts, just going with a knee jerk hatred for anything other than bushie.

Bush still needs to read a book.

TWB, Every administration / congresss has taken money from social security since the mid 70s. Including Clinton. They take the money put it into the general fund then basicaly write an IOU. They are all responsible. As boomers retire there will be less people paying in. The money I now pay in goes to my parents generation. My kids will pay for me. The whole system needs reformed. It will never be reformed if our wonderful elected leaders refuse to acknowledge that theres a problem. Meanwhile all those elected sobs have the finest retirement system our money can buy. As do public employees who pay into PERS. The day I can have the same retirment programs as elected officials or government employees will be a happy day indeed. Im not gona hold my breath.
