(totally mystified)

Vote for what?

Nominate and vote in the Lit. Awards... I think.. is that right Fred? or are we all lost here?

I like all the storys

But I rather not vote thank you, Because I love them all they are all good. so I would end up giveing them all high scores, so all the nomminnes would get a 10 from me

Where the hell are we supposed to nominate and vote? Don't assume everyone knows what you are talking about.

I'll be one of the people not voting though my name appears to be on your list.

When I browse the Nomination Board, I see 'Best Lesbian Story', 'Sexiest Writer', 'Best Gay Story', and the like. Nowhere do I see 'Random story that got your blood flowing.' Yes, you should be a reader if you're going to vote - this isn't about making the writers feel good or making Laurel happy it's about recognizing the best stories and the best writers.

I wouldn't vote on the Oscars either, I've seen, maybe, two movies this year and read, maybe, five stories in various categories. If you decide to vote on computer games, talk to me. If you start nominations for the best comic books of 2000, hell, I'd start flame wars on the board. If you ever get around to doing the voting about people on the board I'd participate in that, though I'm certain people would start whining about how it was just a popularity contest.

Don't ask me which is the best story on this site, I don't know and I have no opinion on it. Why would I vote about something I have no opinion of?

Oh, and please remove my name from your mailing list and do not rent or sell my name.

No... any member can vote.. Fred was just rambling names... I would encourage every member to vote...

April..
They're talking about nominating the best stories on this site in various categories.

And yes, anyone can vote. Fred just decided to harass the top posters on this board.

I totally see your point.. and that is your choice to make... thats one of the great things about Lit. the freedom you have...

Ok, Fred? Are you like the voting nazi or what? Ive voted on the story sections I have read. Im not going to vote on anything else. I dont read the incest stories, i dont read the non consent stories, i dont read the non human stories, so therefore I have no authority to vote or nominate any of them. Im starting to feel like your next step is going to be standing on my front porch shaking my hand, kissing some baby and pinning a button on my blazer that says "rock the lit vote" No offense, but for gods sakes man!

JCGirl- Yes, Fred is the "voting nazi" lol. And no, I had nothing to do with this (you didnt say it, but I know you are thinking it, all of you). He is just a loyal Literotican.. Thanks for nominating... I don't ask that everyone nominate in every catefory, just that they nominate their favorite stories that they've read.. So, thanks a bunch.. you rock...

oh, and the "Rock the Lit. Vote" pins were sent out last week... you didn't get yours?

The story I wanted to nominate has been nominated multiple times. So unless it makes a difference how many times something has been nominated, I'm wandering off in search of entertainment!

It does make a difference. The stories that get nominated the most make it on the ballot for voting.. many stories will be nominated and won't be voted on.. so nominate it...

So what you are saying, if I choose not to nominate, then i'm not a loyal literotican..

I can except that.

I haven't read too many stories lately, although that is what originally brought me to this site. I too, think I would be unable to make a fair nomination because I do not read all of the stories in one particular section to deem what would be better than another. I have gone to the new stories and read several there, but who am I to say that this writer is better than someone else in the same category. I am sure there are many great writers here who deserve the limelight, but for me to make a nomination at this time would be unfair to the many authors whose works I have not read.

So the voting actually takes place in the nomination. No thank you.

For some reason I feel 'funny' about this. On one hand, I'm ignored because I don't have a certain number of votes, then on the other, I feel like I've just been contacted by a telemarketer that won't take no for an answer. You know, the ones you just have to hang up...CLICK.

Since when has writing become a competitive event ?

I rarely read the stories. Unless someone recommends one to me. Then I would go look for it. So then I would have a biased opinion in favour of it.

This is becoming a huge site. To keep track of eveything would be a full time occupation.

Like any competition, it's great for the winner. But how many people are going to feel like losers, because their work hasn't been recognized ?

I've a feeling this is just going to be a popularity contest.

In the theatre they would judge success by the number of people who turned up to watch it. "The bums on seats" rule. The Top List gives that, by using the reader voting system.
That seems fairer , using the actual audience votes. Rather than trying to get people to vote , just because they're active on the Bulletin Board.

I agree with that...it does seem to be a popularity contest. And I, for one, am not going to vote for a story just because a "popular" member wrote it.

I also agree with the others who say they don't feel comfortable for voting for a story if they have nothing to compare it to. I might have read 2 stories in the last year. That is a very small percentage of the stories submitted. I wouldn't feel right voting a story in under those circumstances...

Sorry, no voting here, either. I live on the general bb only. I don't exist in the story section.

Not gonna do it, wouldn't be prudent, at this juncture. Vote for me, don't vote, I could care less. I haven't nominated anyone either, nor do I see it happening. I'm on the boards or writing my own stuff. That takes enough time as it it. "I only have a limited amount of time here, and I don't want to waste it by looking at stories, especially if I have to go to page 2 of the story section."

Sorry, that cracks me up.

*Smacks self on the forehead* Doh... I give up... I can't win with you guys...

Didn't that hurt?

Not as much as this serious rejection that the awards, which I have worked quite hard on, are getting...

HSWriter

Yeah, that's got to suck, but I don't think that the awards are very accurate. I get terrible feedback from my poetry with some calling it a "first effort" "pedantic" "childish" etc. however, I have sold EVERY poem that is on display here, and not to a collection of first time, pedantic, childish writers. Call me biased, but what a publisher says, and how much they are willing to pay means more than any validation the voting can bring.

Just my opinion. Sorry.
