Are you missing a thread?

ShyGuy68 said:
... So in agreement with Laurel, those threads will be removed, unfortunately for those that have posted pictures within the rules here... And that makes me suspicious, so I remove it...

So, one very disturbing downside to this is that we've given the trolls another way to reek havoc on the site. Have there been discussions on at least considering that possibility before wiping out the hard work of those posting by the rules in one fell swoop?

And, what about pics and cartoons used in avs and signatures? Aren't you still exposed there, regardless of how many threads you delete due to attached pics?

I understand and agree with your intent, but I see what I think may be some rough edges in the current approach. Just adding food for thought as it occurs to me.

Good luck. Your hearts are in the right place, anyway.

Just out of curiousity, has lit ever been threatened with legal action due to copyright breaches by its members? Or is it just a case of erring on the side of caution in case it does trigger some litigation?

I'm not quite sure, but I do know that they got a letter from a lawyer, asking them to remove some copyrighted pics. And that's what started this awareness of the copyrighted pics.

I just found confimation about it here http://www.literotica.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=105512

Besides folks, the name of the board is "Amateur Pic Feedback." Amateur. Non-professional. Didn't get paid for or derive income from. It's a place for the lovely ladies and handsome gents of Lit to post pics of themselves. If folks want to share pics from other sites, I have no problem with that really. I wouldn't suggest that you email them to each other...because as we found out from the Napster debacle, sharing files is wrong..... :).

So get those digital cams a'snappin! And take good care.

Nigel

Nigel it all makes perfect sense to me hun.... I promise to get my cam working again real soon...

Weathered, my apologies for missing these questions the first go around.

Laurel has not discussed with me the troll possiblility, though I have thought about it. And, so far, the threads that I personally have removed contained copyrighted images as the majority of posts. Posts of images by and of members were in the extreme minority. The other night, due to a thread being about half and half, I PM'd the thread starter, then individually edited, post by post. The thread was 33 pages, and it took me almost two hours. Not the best way to spend two hours of my free time, but I had it to spare....

Re: trolls - I think if people who frequent particular threads are dilligent and use the "report this post" function when they see a suspect post, the moderators can then take care of things before they get out of hand, thus eliminating the need to delete the entire thread. The entire reason for the reporting function is to assist the moderators, who cannot be everywhere all the time, in keeping things within compliance.

Thanks,

Nigel

butting in

Just an opinion from a gal who spends way to much time with attorneys:

This is less of an intellectual discussion than a discussion of law:

despite the fact we live in the freest country in the world (which by the way allows lit to exist)

copywrite laws are not something to take lightly

ala: napster and file sharing

the fact of the matter is that the owner of content, a picture, a story, a post,

has intellectual property rights that protect their freedom of speech

which allows them to control where it is posted, quoted, used or abused.

this is part of our undeniable right in the USA,

sane people restrain themselves from screaming fire in a crowded
building"

I LOVE THIS QUOTE!!!!

There used to be a quotes and quips thread somewhere - should be posted there, and all over.....

Just like that freak who lied about the sniper over in Virginia... they are prosecuting, and will probably win - for filing a false report.... even though he has the right to free speech... he doesn't have the right to break the law with it, etc!!!

Nigel,

I was more comfortable the instant that you at least cared enough to answer the question. Then, answering as you did, I am content we are in good hands.

Thanks for taking a little more time out to respond.

Cheers.

Praise indeed, sir. I thank you.

However...I noticed that I neglected to address the issue of sig pics and avs. And the answer to that is - I don't know. That would be a more of a Laurel question. I only have instructions and guidelines as it pertains to posts and attachments.... :)

Thanks again,

Nigel

Question...

Does anyone know how long a copyright lasts? I know for example a patent on something is good for something like 17 years, then is open to anyone to use what the patent was protecting (medications are a perfect explanation). Do copyrights expire?

I'm just curious. I totally agree with the idea of not posting copyrighted stuff, but if copyrights expire wouldn't that help a bit?

Unless I'm mistaken, copyrights are good for 25 years - then, unless copyright is renewed (and it is renewable), the material falls into the public domain.

Not worth a risk, as far as pics go - you just never know, you know?

Very true. I didn't know copyrights could be renewed. They must be the only "protection" that is. I know patents do run out after the first application. Makes sense.

<Going back through posts to double check...thank God I only have about 300 to go through.>

Thanks for going through and checking your own posts, KR - if everyone did that, it'd make our job a LOT easier.

Remember folks - use that reporting function and let us know about pics posted from the web and other copyrighted material. It really helps us! :)

Well, just spent the last 20 min's reading whats going on, now it makes sense why my thread is gone. I know I had alot of images on my thread, but they were all legal.

As was mentioned earlier in this thread, there are sites that you pay to download many of these images. I'd say 90% of what I posted I got from such sites. Well, thats my two cents and then some.

BTW, ya might want to check out the Carolina Thread, I do belive I posted 30-50 images on that thread that fall in line with what was on my thread, so if your serious about what you've said, you best delete or clean up that thread as well.

Since it's you that haven't been able to follow the rules here, why don't you go and clean up your posts yourself?

Well smart ass, being how they were made say 8-10 months ago, and the thread has grown by some 2,000 posts, I think it would be a waste of time. If your going to harp about cleaning up threads, I'd say you have your hands full.

Besides, If they were not supose to be posted, you should have caught them when they were made, seeing how you haven't deleted them I guess they are legal, but then if they are legal, I guess my thread was then too??

See, now I'm being an ass, how easy it rubs off.

You know, it's always easy to attack people, instead of using your brain and think. It have in a very long time said on the "reply to topic" page:

Please do not post copyrighted images!

As for catching people back then, well that was kinda hard to do since neither Nigel or I was a moderator back then. Laurel had the thrust that people could behave, and obey the rules on this board. But it's obvious by the way some people behave that they can't.

As for why it's not deleted, well we are here on a voluteer basis, and don't spend every minute of the day here, but peek in now and then. And I for one don't go look through every thread, but only look on those threads that seems interesting to me as a person, not at as moderator, and if I find something that's outside the rules of this board, well then I act upon it.

And if you want to attack me for doing something free of charge, well go ahead, but don't bet your life on it that you offend me in anyway. But you for sure don't get any respect from me at all.

I might come across as harsh, but that's the way I am, when people can't follow some very simple rules.
