So an American...a citizen of the USA in this case, (Y'all are welcome) are you afraid of...everyday life because of the terrorist?

Guns, especially Handguns seem to make a nice Christmas present this year.

I have talked to no one who indicated they were afraid or any of their families for that matter.

Most indicate a desire to get off a round or two if it happens. I hear this a lot...

"If I go down, I want to go down fighting!"

The attitude of having a desire for law enforcement to use aggressive detection methods while respecting the average citizens and privacy in often talked about at work.

What say ye?

I'm afraid what another Democrat president will do to our country.

Here's a fun game. Next time you are in Walmart, look around and try to spot the terrorist who came to shoot up the place. Now, look around for the civilian hero who will draw fire or take a bullet for you, while you make it too the door.

This works in movie theaters, too.

I'm more afraid of my redneck neighbors who think getting drunk and shooting guns is a fun way to pass the time than I am of terrorists.

Well yeah...But what is the scoop? The news media thinks we are afraid, almost paralyzed to here them tell it.

Here?

A metal detector would have melt down!:D

In my circle of acquaintances the only people who've expressed any fear are an elderly British couple who lived through the IRA bombings in London years ago. Among the rest of them, the prevailing attitude is hoping "America" wakes up and addresses the problem and/or the same "let me go down fighting" attitude.

Or hear the pop from the shoplifter twat sneaking out cookie rolls.

My Grandfather (RIP) thought it was extremely funny to get roar drunk(and he did often) and take a rifle(usually a .22) and shoot over his son in laws house, (He did not much care for the fucker when sober)twenty or thirty times a evening or night...laughing like a drunken loon.

He should have aimed lower in my opinion.

Why is another story...

Trump and increased gun sales say as much about levels of fear as do tears and boo hooing. Now vote in a lefty liberal and get some common sense gun control in, in the face of terrorism. And we can talk about how unafraid Americans are.

The house on the street with the fence, pitbull and guns is way more afraid than the hippy house with a lawn full of artsy stuff.

Everyone always spouts what they would do if someone came in and started shooting shit up... Out of all the mass shootings in the United States, how many shooters were stopped by the bullet of one of the crowd? There has to of been someone who was armed. Why didn't they shoot?

Answer? Was it the human nature of self preservation? Honestly, I really have no clue. I just cant see someone who is scared enough to run out and buy a gun to protect themselves from terrorists would use it in an instance of terror...

Maybe I'm wrong.

There have been a couple. I remember something about a shopping mall, but not the details. I also remember a couple that were simply overpowered by unarmed bystanders.

But the simple fact is, you are many, many times more likely to be killed or injured by a friend or family member, either accidentally or intentionally than by a stranger.

I don't post much in these, but I feel compelled to answer this.

Maybe it's because movie theaters, schools, etc. are "gun free zones?" And the vast majority of gun owners honor that? And just maybe the "bad guys" know this, and target those?

There are any number of instances of c/c owners breaking up this kind of stuff in other spots. Just maybe there isn't much publicity because it doesn't fit the agenda?

People "running out to buy a gun to protect themselves from terrorists?" LOL! People by guns for more reasons than that.

OK, back to lurking. :)

I lived through the IRA bombings and lost friends in them. The normal reaction was that the worst the IRA could do was as nothing compared to what London took during WW2.

The IRA were a nuisance but their bombing campaign on the UK mainland achieved nothing.

The terrorist attacks in London have had minimal impact on people's daily lives. Carrying on as normal is the best response to a terrorist threat while being aware of the possibility that an attack might happen. Being vigilant but not obsessive is a reasonable reaction.

You might also win the lottery. Except for the major prizes, winning something on the lottery is far more likely than being affected by a terrorist attack.

They weren't always gun free zones. I understand people buy guns for more than that. That wasn't my point. My point is how many people will actually use them if needed?

They train the military and law enforcement how to use their weapons in times of duress. The average dick slapper doesn't have the advantage of that training to use in a time of a mass attack. I see that as a minus in the "I'll go down fighting" argument. I don't know how I'd react. Unless you've been in that situation or have been trained for something of the sort, no one does.

I could be wrong.. I'm not a psychiatrist nor am I an expert on how normal everyday humans act in these types of scenarios.. If put in that position I'm certainly hoping a bunch of armed John Waynes come our of the sensible pants aisle.

What happens when Pat Doe comes out shooting at the bad guys and ends up shooting innocents instead?

What happens when the police come in, see people shooting and can't figure out who is who?

"John Waynes." Well, you made up your mind. You obviously don't know any gun owners. Everyone I know go to the range on a regular basis. As for how anyone would react, I'll give you that. Who knows? But comparatively few gun owners are what you think they are.

I'm done.

It amazes me that citizens of other countries always seem to care and judge what Americans do in America. *shrugs* If you don't like the fact that we can legally own weapons to defend our families and our property, here's a secret...too bad!

Mind your own business and carry on. I would think you'd have enough to do making sure your own country is run properly. 'Nuff said.
