and if so what would you do if your lover or s/o wanted to fly you away for an extended weekend? For those of you with kids how would this factor into your plans?

I was petrified of airplanes until I actually got on one. In all honesty, I feel 100 times safer in a plane than I do on a car.

I am and have always been scared to fly,but next month I am hopping onto one and flying to my Tiger. Why? Cause he wants me and thats enough to get me to go one.

As far as my kids? I am leaving them here,if the plane crashes at least I wont be taking them with me.

No Fuckin

Way am I getting on a plane unless I absolutely have to for work.

And even then I'll probably be three sheets to the wind.

No, but hittin' the ground again's a bitch if you don't do it right.

Go, man, go. When your number's up, it won't matter if you're in a plane, car, crosswalk or bed.

No problem, I flew before 9/11 and have flown since 9/11, I feel safer now than ever!

Of course the wanding four times on one trip was a pain in the butt, and the lines at security suck, but it's for everyones safety!

I'm just afraid that I'll be sitting next to you on the plane when YOUR number is up...I'll be shit out of luck then

First time I flew as an adult by myself I was going to Nova SCotia and I swear I thought I was gonna fall through the bottom of the plane when we landed.

THEN! the second time I flew as an adult alone was to North Carolina and we had to fly over Charlotte for 10 min until the wind currents died down so we could land.... i could see lightning streaking accross the sky as we flew.

NOW!! Do you think I wanna do that again??? lol

... you mean she's paying!?

What is this--one of those 'trees falling in the forest' sorts of questions? Sorry, I live in the real world....

Yes, I am afraid(always have been)

that doesn't mean I won't. I have to do some travelling for work and my s/o and I are an LDR so flying does save us time. I don't drink so unfortunately, I'm completely sober while flying. I say a prayer and get on with it. I'm always glad to arrive at my destination.

As far as my kids are concerned I don't see how flying is any different than other plans with my s/o. I arrange for family to care for them in my absence. I'm lucky my family is small but close. We don't think twice about watching each other's kids.

Peace,

daughter

No; my father is a pilot and I have been flying in small aircraft since before I can remember - I have even flown the plane a few times, including a twin he once owned. That was fun, but not enough to bother with getting my license, owning a plane and paying the insurance. Riding a motorcycle is fairly close to flying a plane and still staying on the ground, so I get my thrills that way.

An interesting story; Lost Cause loves to fly, but he rarely gets the chance. When we were young (teenagers) LC had not yet flown so I offered to have my dad take him up for a ride. The first chance we got was a check ride with a flying club (my father was between planes at the time).

The check ride includes a numbe rof maneuvers including banks, etc., and recovery from stalls. For those of you that are not pilots, stalls are where the plane's attitude is such that the wings are at such a steep angle that the plane stops climbing due to lack of lift. The plane then loses lift and drops a bit. The proper way to recover from a stall is drop the nose, pick up enough speed to get lift again, then level off.

So we were in this check ride, my father showing the check pilot that he can recover from stalls, doing it numerous times, and it is like a roller coaster ride. Before the flight I was worried about how LC would take his first flight, but here I was hanging on to my seat, feeling my stomach drop out from under me, etc. - and I looked over at LC and he was grinning ear to ear just loving the hell out it.

Can't remember HOW MANY times this Q has been asked since September, but the answer is ALWAYS the same.

I flew right before, and right after the 11th. I'll be flying again in 6 weeks. I feel totally safe in a plane, safer than a car. I'm not afraid of being in a plane as much as I am about making it through security without them checking EVERYTHING in my bags VERY WELL. I'd rather wait 15 mintues while they check everything, than have some person, say, yep, you look ok, go on ahead.

If my lover wanted me to fly to him...I would do it in a New York second. I have never been afraid to fly so why should I start now?

fawn :)

I'm not the slightest bit afraid of flying. What I don't like, however, is traveling for 12 hours. That sucks. So those of you who bitch about sitting in the plane for 3 or 4 hours are wimps! :p
