Are you a character?

[sarcasm] Me? I'm Danielle.

And every other kitten who's ever walked through the Lit doors, too. And Abs. I'm definitely Abs. And Vana. And sr71plt. I'm definitely him, too. Oh I have hundreds and hundred of identities. In fact, I'm pretty much everyone on this board, and I have conversations with myself all day long...

So many alts, so little time... :D

[/sarcasm]

I'm a significantly less shy and inhibited version of myself when I post on Lit, but that gap has been getting increasingly shorter in recent years. :)

I'm more of an asshole here than in real life - I think because in real life I don't argue with conservative wingnuts, I just smile and change the subject.

I do wish I'd chosen a less pretentious screen name though. Something like "Old Perv" would be much more my style.

Wow, if I knew you were me I would have played with myself a lot before now.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know. You'd have to ask the people who have met me in person . . . er, bear.

I'm a lot of characters.

I'm a mom. I'm a teacher. I'm a girlfriend. I'm a young adult author. I'm an erotica author.

Do I post as a character? Not really.

I tallied the results.

It seems most people who answered the question are on the boards as themselves.

A few even said that they are more themselves on the board than they are in real life. Or, in other words, they put on a character when dealing with the world in person. This raises interesting questions of the nature of self, I suppose...

Many people suggested that they are themselves on the board, but not ALL of themselves, mostly because they do not want to reveal their identities.

A couple people suggested they were themselves on the board because they've had to play characters too much in the past. This is another interesting response to me. I tend to have considered myself too honest in the past, and I seem to now be developing an affinity for acting in real life.

One person, Xssve, suggested the term "online persona" which I think is a good term. This would include the many people who said they are less inhibited online than they are in person.

There is a small handful of respondents who don't seem to know exactly what they are posting as. And at least one respondent who seems to be playing a character she didn't want to be playing at first, but has accepted it over time.

Oh, and we mustn't forget the three characters who responded and said they were characters. I believe all three were created by the same person.

And SweetNSassy said she had a character, but that character would never come on my thread and "break the spell" which I think is probably why not very many characters ended up posting in this thread.

I also learned a new term: alt. Anyone care to expand on a definition of that term?

All this leads to a new question: http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=638353

When you post on lit, are you posting as yourself, or have you made up a character for yourself?

I'm pretty much just me -what you see (er, read) is what you get. In some ways more honest here (in that I don't talk to some of my friends or even my husband about my erotic interests) and in some ways more guarded (in that I don't share all of my outside interests here on lit).
