Are there rights to sex in one's old age?

Do the elderly have a right to sexual activity?

  • Not usually; it's up to the caregivers to decide what's best.

I think that they should do what they want, I just want to make sure that I don't walk in on it. Having to hand check my grandparents at dinner is a terrifying experience when you're young.

Biut I'm still glad they feel that way about eachother.

I have had a couple of similar incidents.

The first came many years ago. I was down in Atlanta on a business trip and I went to see my brother's father-in-law (got that relationship?) who had been recently widowed. He was not at all demented, still quite vigorous, and he was starting to date again. His youngest child, still in college, was home for the summer, and the kid was horrified that his father was "misbehaving". It was really hilarious to see this kid trying to keep his father in line.

The second concerns my own parents, who, sadly, had bodies that outlasted their minds. I'm sure some of the rest of you have seen their loved ones contract back into a point -- a heartbreaking and frightening experience.

But, there was some humor along the way. They had been in an apartment in assisted living for a few years, but eventually it got to the point where they had to move into the nursing home area. They were soon put into separate rooms to keep them from engaging in "inappropriate" activity. But I don't think that put a stop to it.

After my mother's death, my father just retreated completely -- whether into dementia or just withdrawal I will never know for sure.

Hey, I started a thread on this already!

It bears repeatin' Tony. ;)

This whole thing pissed me off the first time I read it and it still does.

I wouldn't leave a nickel to that greedy, meddling, hypocritical little bastard.

May you live as long as you want to and want to as long as you live. :D

And love as long as you want to!

When I was younger the very thought of my parents or grandparents fucking was so far fetched as to be the stuff of comedy. Now that I'm older I think, "Why not?"

That's human nature for you.

My kids know that I'm SlickTony of Literotica--my daughter knows but has never read my stuff to my knowledge, and as for my 19YO son, I'm sure he blocks it out, as I am sure is normal for that age. Nevertheless, when I make my will, I'm going to have to put some kind of proviso in it, so that if I end up like poor Dorothy, whatever inheritable assets I have automatically go to nomorehomelesspets or a literacy foundation or some place like that.

I didn't vote as the issue in this situation wasn't age, but dementia. Age creates no boundaries for anything imho. Interesting article on the subject if interested: http://www.slate.com/id/2174855

Quick edit to add a quote from the article that I enjoyed regarding homes for elderly care: "...at one home in Denmark, you can even call out for hookers and X-rated movies."

Note to self: Retire in Denmark.

My daughter reads my novels -- that has been something of a revelation for her. But my wife never would, until the last one. That interested her because it's contemporary, not science fiction, and there is a lot of stuff drawn from real life. So she was asking me daughter how much she would recognize, and my daughter assured her that she wouldn't recognize any of the sex.

Then my daughter paused, and added, "but how would I know?" -- which led to a lot of giggling.
