As a percentage of the population? I've read that in several places but I don't know if it's true or what the stats are.

Actually, I meant this thread for the general board. But I'm sure somebody here can find a way to politicize it.

Found this article interesting....

Poll Finds Lesbians Are Only 16% Of The LGBTQ Population In America

"While young women are now more likely to identify as queer or bisexual, they’re much less likely to identify as lesbians."

"Just over half of LGBTQ people in the United States identify as bisexual or queer — and the overwhelming majority of them are young women. Meanwhile, relatively few young women identify as lesbians."

"Bisexual women outnumbered bisexual men four to one — 78% to 19%. Three percent said they are genderqueer, nonbinary, or prefer to self-describe."

Here is another point from the article:

"Speaking of gay men and women — twice as many people identify as gay than lesbian (32% to 16%).
And while bisexual women tend to be younger, lesbians are the opposite: Only 14% are between the ages of 18 and 29. Sixty-nine percent of lesbians are 40 and older, while only 29% of bisexual people are in the same age range. Twenty-one percent of lesbians are 60 and above, compared to just 9% of bisexuals. (Gay men also skew slightly younger, though with a more even distribution across age ranges.)"

So apparently, it looks like there are more men willing to identify as "gay" than women wanting to be identified as "lesbian".

What exactly does "queer" mean in this context?

what exactly does 'gay men' mean, for that matter?

is it like the old one drop of blood rule? like the old joke about 'just because you suck one dick!" or how about someone who considers themselves gay but is totally celibate? are they gay even though they don't have sex with men? finally, if a guy plays with his own dick, does that mean he's gay? a dick is a dick, after all.

One thing I've read is, that many societies have some sort of share-the-men system because men are more likely than women "to have a psychosexual orientation that makes them essentially unmarriageable." (This was written long before SSM was a thing.)
