Are there any issues with volunteer editors getting emails

I haven't used volunteer editors before but was stuck on a story and reached out to two editors on the volunteer editor program. Neither of them replied with either a yay or nay which is obviously ok and their choice.
But I was wondering if there are any technical issues that people are aware that may have stopped the editors getting my email as I know that I would always try to reply, even if not available or interested.

The VE system has been mostly defunct for years (and, in any case, has no vetting system. You may know more about writing than a VE you try to contact). The best approach is to directly seek help via post on this forum.

Thanks for the advice

The software seems to be working as designed. It seems that many of the volunteer editors simply ignore the emails and don't bother to let you know that they aren't interested.

I recently used the system and the first three editors never acknowledged the request. The fourth said that he wasn't interested, and the fifth said that he'd be happy to help. In all cases, I checked the box to have a copy of the email sent to my email address. I got a copy of all of the contact requests.

I understand that this is a volunteer program, but I think that this is borderline rude. With my first contact, I spent a long time looking through several editors before finally choosing one that looked like a really good match. I waited for days before finally giving up. I tried it again with a second editor with the same results. I finally submitted three requests one after another before anyone acknowledged my request.

In my request email, I described my story topic in a polite manner and usually commented on something that I saw in their editor’s profile that caught my interest. I also checked to make sure that the length of some of their stories was close to mine. My category (Erotic Couplings) is pretty mainstream, and I made sure they that all explicitly listed this in their interests. I mentioned that my editing needs would probably be light.

Does the Volunteer Editor system have a button that lets the editors temporarily disable requests without deleting their account? Maybe they could turn off requests during times when they won’t be able to edit.

Most listed "editors" in the system are long gone. There doesn't appear to be any weeding out process to the system.

The editor programme basically doesn’t work. Mainly because people sign up to it, then find it isn’t for them, or just lose interest. They change emails and don’t update their profile, or many other reasons and don’t update or delete their profile.

I rarely reply by emails I receive and my profile indicates that. I much prefer the private mail system as it is more secure. I only want people to know my email as and when I accept that I can help out with a story.

I have, some time ago, had discussion with Mannu (site programmer) and we agree that the editor programme needs a lot of work doing to it. Unfortunately it is low on his priority list as he gradually re vamps the whole site.

It is best to post a request here, giving the word count, what category it will publish in and a short bit about the content. Even then there is no guarantee you will get an answer.

It has profile on and off buttons, but if it is turned off, the profile is deleted, so no, no means of temporarily disabling it.

As a relatively recent editor, I've only gotten e-mails from the program unless I'm directly contacting someone. So it's at least working in that respect.

Of course, there's no way to know if a message isn't being passed on to me, so take it for what it's worth.
