I stumbled across this as a neglected topic on a local site but it has caught my attention enough to aim for an international mini survey on here. :)

A poster suggested the following: "If I was interested in meeting someone with a common interest in real life, for example: an avid science fiction fan, I would try to join a group or activity where the percentage of sci-fi fans was above average, say IT specialists? So I'd go and sign up for a java course maybe. Thus have higher chances to meet like minded people in the breaks between classes than in my everyday environment but still preserving a sense of spontaneity."

The comparison or the translation for that matter may not be perfect but I hope they get the general idea across.

Is there any group, any topic of interest that is more common among BDSM practitioners than among the vanilla people?

I am mostly looking for not directly sex related suggestions. But fields of interest that may provide increased chances for meeting someone into the lifestyle without the additional pressure of a lifestyle oriented theme to the opportunity of getting to know each other, such as fetish parties or munches.

If this topic has been discussed here before, I'll be happy to be pointed towards that thread as well. :)

Thank you for your input! :rose:

You may get a different response depending on the area of the country/world. However, where I am (the Metro Detroit area) there is a huge crossover between the sci-fi fandom, BDSM, and Pagan communities. In fact, at sci-fi cons I have seen many open lifestyle participants in attendance.

Yes.

The large majority of us are basketweavers.

Oh! Really? That used to one of my Grandpa's hobbies too! I wonder what ... no, on second thought, I don't want to know.

If only curiosity was the greatest sin in the world.

;-D

It feels nice to make someone laugh... especially when it was the goal to do so.

I feel to have overreacted there. Sorry about that. :rose:

I have a feeling though that you are wiser than to take offense.

There still seems to be lots left to learn.

Oh, I can take offense... just give me a reason or let me think I have a reason.

Neither was the case in your post.

Frankly, I think you caught the humor and played along quite nicely. ;-)

And for those grammer nazis... I deliberately made that statement redundent. (large majority? aaaaahahahhaha)

"Clubs, bars, dancing, music "

For those of us who have a great love of classical music, and the performing arts, but hate getting jiggy in the clubs; I think found this lumping/categorization to be disappointing. *pout* *pout*

;)

Ruben's Beauty I personally am unable to equate any specific interest ( except one area in the case of dominants ) that immediately comes to mind in relation to your question.

I have known people from both sides of the D/s equation and everything in-between BDSM/fetish perspective whom attest to a diverse range of 'interests'.

If anything my concern falls into the area of stereotyping. If you wanted to take a cynical approach you could almost say that being submissive included some genetic code with markers that include the following skills/interests also. All submissives have a propensity to writing erotic fiction, all submissives squirt, all submissives are insatiable sluts that are constantly in a hyper state of arousal. I find from there we fall into areas I might also consider a cult like status.

Where my theory is blown right out of the water is in relation to Dominant's. To be more specific male Dominant's. It's astounding how many I have known over the years that have backgrounds in Military, Security, Police and specialist forces.
Cited in this area I suspect a strong feed into drives that are somewhat a sincere representation of underlying dominant pathos. Still astounds me to some degree.

Now I'll just go back to my basket weaving shall I : chuckles :

Please permit me to be clear, nothing said above is shared with aggressive intent. Just observations . I have no issue with the question you posed whatsoever. In fact I find it quite interesting and look forward to reading the replies of others whom chose to contribute also :rose:

Me too, to be honest. But the vote function offers a maximum of 10 categories and there were just so many that came to my mind.

Anyone is welcome to specify their favorites here though. :)

The only problem with placing the post here is that there are more than just BDSM practioners that stop at this forum and participate. Your results will be skewed.

Great question.

I'm into cooking and wine. But I consider myself an unpretentious foodie. I also enjoy light gardening. I say, light, because, I buy the plants, and put them in. Weeding, eh, a gardner does that for me.

I'm hugely into automobiles. Be it new or old, if you can drive it, I'm into it. Particular to my passion are little Italian cars. I'm fully into a resotration on a current project. I would share pics and more, but I favor my status as an anonymous poster here.

Looking forward to everyone elses answers.

I'm into cooking.. though I prefer baking... pies, cakes, cookies. bread.. I make a mean homemade vegetable beef soup...

As homey, boring as it is going to sound.. I love to crochet and knit.. I picked it up when I quit smoking..

I love to read. I read books over and over.

I'm a lover of old musicals and old movies... ok.. movies in general

I'm not a great one..but I love to tinker in my garden.. growing Four o'clocks, azaeleas, hydrangeas, and hasta's.. oh..and in the back yard, every spring.. lily of the valley

I like wines..but I'm just learning about those..

I love all things celtic.. especially history and lore and music..

Music is my life.. well other than football.. I couldnt live a life without it

I love Mustangs... the car, not the horse...
