A friend just pm'd me the words to this Conway Twitty song below. My question is... are there real cowboys out there these days????????

"Don't Call Him a Cowboy "

So you came from New Zealand and you want to see the sights

You've heard all about those cowboys and those crazy Texas nights

I see you've got your eye on something leaning on the bar

But the toughest ride he's ever had was in his foreign car

CHORUS:

So don't call him a cowboy until you've seen him ride

Cause a Stetson hat and those fancy boots don't tell ya what's inside

No, and if he ain't good in the saddle Lord you won't be satisfied

So don't call him a cowboy until you've seen him ride

He's the Hollywood idea of the wild and wooly west

In his french designer blue jeans and his custom tailored vest

You think he's the real thing but I think you oughta know

He can't even make it through a one night rodeo.

There are REAL cowboys and Vaqueros...Ever been to South Texas?....most of the economy rest on ranches.

Vaquero=Spanish for Cowboy

OOww baby... you just put a smile on my face :D

Watch a rodeo and you will see them all.. From old to young they are there... Its just a matter of finding the good ones not the bad ones ;)

When I saw this thread i laughed my ass off! We've got them here to.

Around here the cowboy bars are filled with Stetson hats, tight fitin' Wrangler jeans and butts made from exotic leather. The truth is the majority of these guys an gals are all wannabe's! None of them know what it is to dehorn or vaccinate. And if they ever had to pull a calf...well they might ride to the pasture in the pickup and watch their hired hand!

Everytime I see one I try to introduce him to the yuppie biker at the other end of the bar! LOL

privy:D

Oops - that typo should be boots - not leather butts - ya gotta be a cowboy to get one of those! hehehe

Let me put my chaps on ;)... promise I'll be gentle as I break you in.......

Sure there are. With spurs & chaps. On a horse with a lasso or in the WalMart.
Seen them in Oklahoma.

I used to have hundreds of head of cattle in PA myself, but I always wore rubber boots and told my Heeler to herd them. The folks in western-wear here are often wannabees.

See if the cowboys can handle a pair of fencepliers, or even identify them.

Yep, they gotta know what to do with #8 wire and be able to birth a calf in the dead of the night......

*well #8 wire is what we use for fences in NZ*

See that boy standing there by the dance floor
He's lookin' like the Marlboro Man
Starched shirt, starched jeans, big trophy buckle
And an empty Copenhagen can
He's talkin' cowboy this and cowboy that
Well I'll bet one thing's for sure
The only stampede that he's ever seen
Is the clearance at the western store

All hat and no cattle, that boy just ain't real
All boots and no saddle, don't know how to make a cowgirl feel
Think I'm gonna tell him to pack up his act
And go back where he came from
'Cause all hat and no cattle ain't gonna get it done

He's just a smooth-talkin', long-tall slow-walkin'
Srugstore-made-up dude
So honey don't you fall for that fake Texas drawl
He ain't right for you
What you need's a man that ain't just a hat stand
When you get him home
Well, I don't look like much, but I can sure saddle up
And ride with you all night long

All nat and no cattle, that boy just ain't real
All boots and no saddle, don't know how to make a cowgirl feel
Think I'm gonna tell him to pack up his act
And go back where he came from
'Cause all hat and no cattle ain't gonna get it done

All hat and no cattle ain't gonna get it done

I know a few real cowboys. My stepdad is one.

Well if there are plenty to go around - could someone send one to me in England......I'll pay the postage!!

Hey, they are being freighted to NZ first and then I will forward onto you those that don't quite cut the hide for me ;) :D

Just a rodeo drifter, he comes and he goes,
Like a wild wind that blows in the night.
The highways and backroads are all that he knows,
He’ll be gone with the mornin’s grey light.

Like a blue norther howlin’ like the tumbleweeds blow,
There’s no way to settle him down.
His spirit’s as wild as the horses he rides,
His freedom he wears like a crown.

CHORUS
And he rides the wild horses,
The same blood flows through their ]veins.
Yes he rides the wild horses,
Like the horses he’ll never be tamed.

He’ll never be broke, he won’t be tied down,
He’ll never wear no man’s brand.
He won’t fit in with the nine to five crowd
Cause movin’s all he understands.

It all depends on the age of the fence . The new ones are NZ style. There's plenty of barbed wire left in this country.

There aint NOTHING hornier than a man who can sit a horse well.

*Goes off into dream land*
Ohhhhhhhhhh yeah....

I dunno where that came from.

Hell, there's plenty of barbed wire in my pasture... wanna help me replace it all?

A Cowboy's Need

And when your tired and bones do ache,
does she come to radiate.

Does she warm your weary bones,
does she bring what’s needed home.

Can you reach something fine,
not having to find it in your mind.

And does she ever share your pain,
giving more again and again.

I hope she gives what you need,
Cause I can't get there.......

Only in my dreams.

T.H.
