Are celebrity stories dirty?

What's your opinion on celebrity stories? I'm genuinely curious as I have detected a feeling that they are somehow 'cheaper' than normal erotica with some Lit member. That because they're technically fanfic, they'll never be as good as a proper story.

Not my opinion, I quite like the feeling of playing with someone else's idea. Just wondered what you all thought.

I like fan fics. Especially HP- fan fics...:D

There are ups and downs with celebrity stories. On one hand, you don't need to go to the same length as in normal stories with introducing a character and making him/her alive, as those who read celebrity stories usually do so because they know who this or that celebrity is.
On the other hand, you have to pay much more attention to realism, or the whole thing will just be ridiculous.

"Yeah, like I really believe that Pamela Anderson would come over to your sleasy little apartment because she's just dying to give you a blowjob..!"

One story which I really liked was 'A Date With The Night' which I thought had a very realistic way of getting Dave Grohl together with the ordinary girl. I believed that one.

Do you think they're cheaper because you're more likely to be catering to an audience who are just imagining a celebrity with their kit off rather than actually reading what you've written?

Who's Dave Grohl?

And... yes. I think so. Well... it depends on the quality of the story. Some people put down a lot of effort on their celebrity stories. Others are just flirting with the masses to get a red H.

Maybe there's a tendency to think that the writer is just imagining a celebrity with their kit off rather than actually thinking about what you're reading.

What's a kit?

I think in some ways it's almost harder to write a good celeb story...for example, when I wrote my next gen fic's (wesley's woman chapters 1-5) I had to write the characters in an honest and true way, yet integrate a new character into the mix. My readers expect my characters to act true to themselves, and it was difficult to do.

On the other hand, a celeb story like the pam anderson and some random guy isn't any cheaper than the jack/jill off story that's written with little plot

Why thank you...

Dave Grohl used to be the drummer in Nirvana and now fronts the Foo Fighters. I would attach a photo, but can't find one that isn't copyrighted.

I think it depends on the writer. Some celebrity stories I've read here have been so unbelieveable that it's obvious the person who wrote it, got caught up in his or her own little fantasy and has neglected the fundamentals of any story (e.g. describing the characters, natural dialogue and situations, etc).

When I wrote 'A Date With The Night' (http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=91422) I knew that most people wouldn't know who Dave Grohl was and tried to write it in such a way that if the reader didn't know who he was, it wouldn't detract too much from the jist of the story.

I think people assume that celebrity stories are easier to write because they involve a ready-made character. But for me it was harder because before I wrote every piece of dialogue and action I thought: "Would Dave do/say this?" and it is almost impossible to know because I don't know him or I didn't create him.

With celeb stories you also run the risk of alienating the reader who may also fantasise about the celeb concerned. For example, if a story is about what a hot little slut Britney Spears is and how she goes to some bar and fucks twenty guys, someone may be reading it and hate/disagree with it because he has always fantasised about her being an innocent virgin whom he would like to "break in".

Speaking from experience, writing a celeb story isn't as easy as most people think and I'm not so sure I would do it again ;)

I wrote the Spiderman series stories because since I was a little kid I loved Spiderman. Simple enough, so when the Spiderman movie came out it gave Me a little inspiration for a new story. I simply added in My favorite porn star and wrote away. I don't think it was a cheap attempt at getting H's. Of course I knew it would get lots of reads, or so I hoped. In the end I think you have to just be careful and continue writing the way you want things to be.

My official stance on celebrity stories is: "Who gives a shit?"

I couldn't care less about celebrities, or stories about them.

Hot damn!

It's absolutely WONDERFUL to find someone who shares my views so exactly.

I don't find them particularly whatever. I don't think it's particularly easier to write an established personality.

I just think it's creepy. I mean, these are real people. I would find it just way too weird--actually, I have--when someone writes a smut story involving me.

Yew.

I wrote my celeb story about a dead person. That way she couldn't read it. I just get the creeps thinking about writing a story about a real person and then having that real person give me feedback on it.

My skin is scrawling.

LOL. another twist to that KM would be that a celebrity may read the story and go "WHOA! That was cool." Or something of that nature. Perhaps they would see it as a nice little tribute to them, even if they didn't send feedback.

Getting their kit off: English slang for removing clothes.
Kitless: naked.

I should really use stuff that you'll all understand.

I'm no celebrity (except for a VERY few people at Lit:) ), but I see it like this: I can't stop a stranger in the street, who sees me walking my dog, from fantasizing about me, and writing a jerk-off story about me would be something similar to a fantasy.

However, when it comes to publically writing about people in such a way that they might be recognized (like by using their names, like in Celebrity section), I think it's important to somewhere on the page declare that it's a made up story, so people won't get the wrong idea.

From my point of view, a celebrity story is a fantasy just like any other story on Lit. I didn't write mine for reads/votes it was just an attempt to put one of my fantasises to paper.

As Svenskaflicka says, people fantasise about celebs every day in the same way they may fantasise about the girl in Starbucks or the guy who delivers the water at work. What's the difference between writing a story about a fantasy you've had about Tom Cruise or writing one about that guy at the gym?

The only thing I can think of is what KM said: that if the person concerned reads it. (That never even occured to me when I wrote mine...eekk!)

But thinking about it logically, the chances of your celeb reading your story are pretty slim and the chances of them sending you feedback on it is even more unlikely (besides how can you prove that it's actually the celeb and not some bored person pretending to be them to wind you up?)

How I WISH my celebrities would send me feedback and prove they exist for real..!

Who Only Writes About Fictional Characters

Technically, celebrity stories are a different category
from fan-fic. A story about Dr. Spock or Sherlock Holmes
is fan-fic. A story about Marylin Monroe is celebrity.
I try to avoid writing them, not only because I don't
much in current pop culture (look at my example of a
celebrity.)
I find that I like to create my *own* universe and my *own*
characters. That said, I've done a few. I've ben tempted
by a few others, more often books than TV shows.
Still, I think I've done more creating when I write a
story about Bob and Jeanette than when I write a story
about some other author's characters.

Well, you can stop her, but it would be dangerous and perhaps illegal (if you used restraints, for example).

In any case, I would want to be sure the dog wasn't featured too prominently in the stranger's fantasy.

Or would I?

I have written a lot of fanfiction, but it is always about the _characters_. I can't possibly see myself writing a story about an actor or actress.

But then, I also am much more prone to getting crushes on the characters than on the actors. I would easily write (and on occasion have done) tales about Obi-Wan Kenobi, Agent Dale Cooper, or Brisco County Jr. But _not_ Ewan McGregor, Kyle MacLachlan, or Bruce Campbell.

'Sides, I would think that the real person wouldn't appreciate it much. I've known actors (voice actors anyway) who are quite amused by the notion of their characters having extra-canonical naughty fanfic adventures but probably wouldn't be very amused if the story was about their own real-life selves.

I agree with others here. Fan Fiction uses other's characters for your own purposes. When I ventured over there, I found only one series I like, the Wesley Crusher series.

Grin...Thanks!

And to share...the first chapter was linked to a site called fark.com when I first put it up. Now, this is only important, because they see Wil Wheaton (the actor who played WC) as a minor god and he hangs out on the site and comments as well. And yup...he saw it and commented on it...
