At the risk of setting off another round of "renard is a "racist"" bullsh*t from RoryN and company, I'm still going to pose the question.

It seems like more than 13% of the people shown in advertising are black. Among the most prominent actors shown, it seems to be a good 40%, while the background characters are maybe 25% black.

More visibly identifiable Hispanics are shown then there were a few years ago, but still not very many, while Asian-Americans are still rare.

You are really Mr. Obvious with your provocative trolling threads aren't you now.

Does not warrant serious response.

Why is this a concern?

What are the implications and consequences, if blacks are over represented in advertising?

Does this mean blacks will buy more stuff, since more blacks are in commercials?

Are you worried there will be less stuff for white people to buy? Maybe some kind of affirmative action consumerism?

Very few ugly blacks in ads...they have to be pretty blacks.

Very few ugly people in ads generally.

The ethnic and gender boosts/drops are done to signal a perception of multicultural awareness and popularity in the manufacturer and product via the boost/drop in question.

That's all it is.

When whites were over-represented there were all kinds of complaints and demands for change. Sauce for the goose, no?

I don't know anything about the ad biz. What are boosts/drops?

No. It's not the same. And I highly doubt blacks are over represented in ads. I guess if you specify what kind of add then perhaps. Care to narrow your racist views a bit?

Also you're not fooling anybody, we know you're racist and for the most part we don't really care.

Maybe because it is racist bullshit

" white" folks make up 70% of the population... yet make up over 80% of the media represenation

your opinion doesnt represent actual percentages

you just get outraged when you see someone who isnt white on TV and remember the black people

According to Hollywood and it's movie representations, no episode of Western history occurred outside the presence of racial minorities.:D I must admit that many of these representations though phony as far as history goes, are really the dictates of actors guild contract diversity clauses. Of course if Hollywood were to do a history of say the Zulus, you wouldn't find the tribe with a ten percent contingent of whites, would you? :D

yeah, because both Mickey Rooney and Marlon Brando were convincing japanese guys

and Elizabeth Taylor was historically accurate as Cleopatra

Did someone appoint you Guardian of White People's Fair Share?

Did you lose something when black people began to appear in TV commercials?

How does this impact your life? Are you threatened when a beer commercial has four guys watching a game and there are two white(50%), on Latino(25%), and one black guy(25%)?

If you can point to some drop in your standard of living because of this, I'm willing to listen. Maybe you have a legitimate complaint.

If not, this is stupider than your usual serving if idiocy.

Very little of American History occurred outside the presence of racial minorities. By contrast there were no white Zulus. When Crispus Attucks is as well known as say. . .John Hancock you MIGHT have a point. When Hiram Revels isn't a Jeopardy question for $1000 you might have a point.

Was it stupid when black groups demanded equal representation in advertising? Now the shoe is on the other foot its stupid?

except you have no problem with over representation of white people

you keep skipping over that part

weird huh

I asked how this affects your life. Your stupidity stands on it's on, without comparison to anyone else.

Please tell me. How does the appearance of black people in TV commercials affect your life?

No, it has to stand in comparison to previous stupidity.

They aren't over-represented in advertising today. If it was wrong for them to be over-represented in the past, isn't under-representation today wrong too?

Yes, they are... I've been watching the Big Bang Theory on tv all afternoon

I've seen may be 6 black people in any of the commericals

you dont have anything to support your opinion..and earlier it was already mentioned that over 80% of media representation is white, despite being only 70% of the population

you keep glossing over the onver representation like it isnt happening... but it is

or is over representation bad when its black people .............but good when its white people?

Yes, they are... over 80% of the advertising caters to 70%

that is OVER-represented

how is 80 smaller then 70?
