From today's Times:

"Arafat warns Bin Laden: ‘Stop exploiting Palestinians’
Marie Colvin, Ramallah

THE Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, has angrily accused Osama Bin Laden of exploiting his own struggle for an independent state.
He believes that the founder of Al-Qaeda has adopted the Palestinian campaign in a cynical ploy to gain support in the Islamic world.

“I’m telling him directly not to hide behind the Palestinian cause,” Arafat said in an interview with The Sunday Times.

He is furious that Al-Qaeda has tried to justify atrocities such as last month’s suicide bombing of an Israeli-owned hotel in Mombasa by claiming they are part of a campaign to seize control of Palestinian territories from Israel.

“Why is Bin Laden talking about Palestine now?” he said. “He has never helped us.”"

Just thought I'd mention it...

Interesting he's talking directly to Osama bin Laden though. I wonder if he knows something we don't?...

Good Find ppman.

Hhmmmm . . . being somewhat sceptical of the double dealing that is going on in U$ politics at present, I think this quote attributed to Usama bin Laden is possibly a fabrication rather than fact.

The U$ Dubyah Shrub Administration is losing the propaganda war in their attempt to take over the Middle East undeveloped oil reserves under Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia, and so they are trying to piggyback any cause to prevent further loss of international credibility . . . the Kissinger debacle put U$ credibility at an all time low and falling . . .

Arafat realises that he is about to be tossed over if he even hints that the Palestinians had anything to do with 9/11, so he is covering his backside quick smart with a truthful denial of complicity. :)

I wonder........

How much it would help his cause, if they captured and turned over Bin Laden to an Saudi or Iranian Islamic court, or the US? The reward money would really help his people, and the act would really sway US/GB's effort to quickly establish a Palestinian state. Israel couldn't come back with much of an argument. :D

Then again, p_p_, if Osama were dead and not controlling Al Qaeda, then that would better explain their sudden shift to the defenders of Palestine...

Sort of like when Bush became President and we stopped supporting the butcher Arafat.

:D

Arafat was the only leader in the world during the Gulf war to have supported Saddam

What's that got to do with the price of fish?

You believe anything these people say, don't you? Easy and smart of Arafat to finally "condemn" these homocide bombings by blaming it all on Bin Laden. Smart move to hide behind another terrorist.

I have never believed a politician in all of my adult life (see my sig) but as the Israeli Labour Party is set to elect a moderate leader Arafat just might have his eye in that direction, by-passing Sharon in the process...

It won't be the first time two opposing sides have started the tenuous road to peace without an elected government being officially involved...

Ireland for example...
