Approval time

I submitted a story yesterday and it's now marked for posting tomorrow. So, two-day turnaround.

So far, 24 hours +

I figure 2-3 days, but we'll see.

One out of the four submitted has been posted, the other three are still pending. The one had been 'sent back' quite a while a go and I had forgotten about it, so that was a resubmission. But how does it have 1,600 views in just a few hours?

People fail to realize they aren’t the only ones submitting a story to this site. Higher volumes of submissions mean a longer time to release. A backlog is a killer to new stories as they may appear further down on the headlines, eventually disappearing before any substantial amount of feedback can be achieved. I, myself, don’t mind having to wait longer for my story to post, it’s just that when it posts further down the list is when it bothers me.

I realize there are outstanding factors that affect the turn time on stories posting once they’re submitted: contests, weekends, holidays, an ancient system to screen the stories, and or a limited amount of people to do so. Still, nothing beats the feeling of seeing my work finally posted for others to read. 3 days is a long time but normal. After 5 days it might be worth sending Laurel an email.

Well, recently, I discovered that if you use the right key words, you get the views. One story posted this week has had 10K views in approx 10 hours. The second one I posted (same category, but aimed at a different audience) did a tenth of that. The scores... irrelevant to views and votes. Which is a good reminder, that red 'H' means jack shit to the readers. They just want to read what they want to read.

I see what you’re saying here. I don’t need a red “H” to make up my mind if a story, any story on this site is worth reading. If it can’t get my attention quick, isn’t relatable to me as a reader, or convince me otherwise, then no score rating beside the story is going to do that for me. If I finish reading a story all the way through, I read the comments as well - that’s just me. Thereafter, I’m inclined to leave a comment for the author.🌹Kant👠👠👠

In don't like 'sent backs'. Breaking up paragraphs breaks the flow.

Oh well.

Sent in again.

Yeah, I never looked at them before. In fact, there's a certain type of fiction I enjoy that never gets above a 4.2/4.3. Still good. I read the comments too. Always curious to see the haters hating away. :p

Is it just me? Has anybody else noticed they only seem to publish one per day?

I submitted four a few days back. One got posted within a few hours. The next day they other three were rejected for edits. I cleared those up and resubmitted them. One was published yesterday, one this morning and the third is still pending.

Yes, if you submit several stories on the same day (or chapters), they'll be published over several days.

Very glad they do this, tbh. Means I can have the satisfaction of clicking on 'submit' [great word, that], without having to worry about spacing my work out.

I can submit as much as I want, any time I want, and know it'll all be taken care of in the back end.

Oh, all right, I saw this, I'll bite. You are having far too much fun with your word play, Mr Clearwater ;).

Here, borrow my lace hankie.

What did you get pinged for?

Underage sex - details are in my thread re 'Best Way to Contact Laurel for Rejected Story.' I've been on the AH for years (mostly lurking, rarely posting) and thought I knew where the lines were that we shouldn't cross.

Ah, tricky. I got pinged for underage sex once, for a story where the MC was 22. I was confused about that one. Turned out the use of 'boy' in the title was the issue. At least, I assume it was, as that's all I changed. Oh, and added an 'everyone is over 18' note, just in case anyone was confused.

The guy was 22. Said so, right there in the story.

Very Inconsistent

I’ve been having the same problems- it’s usually almost a week or 2 before mine get posted, yet I follow another author that has his stories posted EVERY day. The only thing I can think of is that he is either a moderator himself and he’s just pushing through his own work or he’s friends with one. Other then that to be honest I find Literotica to be very unfriendly towards authors when it comes to the insanely limited space given for story titles, descriptions and the extreme difficulty in getting a story posted or revised. While I do understand that there should be some kind of quality standard- you do have to take into consideration that 1: the website works off of people (authors) giving their work for free for people to read- how about throwing us a bone on this one. 2 there’s very inconsistent judging on what the moderators consider not publishable work. As an author, I do like the audience here, many of the readers are very supportive and friendly- but the administrative side is very difficult to work with.

There is only one selection editor (Laurel). With one exception, who you see listed as a moderator on the discussion board has nothing to do with the selection and posting of the stories.

I don't know of anyone who gets a story posted in one day except during contests when that can happen to all posting stories to the contest. The current time is two or three days. If you consistently are waiting for a week or more I think you must be submitting illustrated stories or something. They do take longer than normal.

Another option to that is that he's submitted all his chapters at once, and they're being moderated, then released in sequence.

Seems the more you publish, and more consistent you are with your content (not setting off any warning flags that might require additional effort to check) or if you make notes about any content they MIGHT need to check (i.e. if it contains trump category content like incest or non con, but you're not posting in either category), that might speed things up.

I try and make it easy for the mods by adding author notes, adding notes to them about the content, and making good use of keywords etc. Seems to have helped the speed to publication. Might also depend how long your work is, and if they need to consider putting it in another category.

I don't think it's a conspiracy, or personal at all.

I submitted my latest on the 4th and it was published today. So it was 2 days. That's on the faster side of things for me but not unusual. The first story ever took, i think, 5 days and since then it usually took 3.

It could (!) have something to do with the category you're writing in (non-human) but as I have no contact with anyone from the site that's not even a guess but more a speculation.
