for the conference: slacks/khakis, not skirts. blouses but not too fancy. button-up or collared should be dressy enough. non-sneakers.
bring a pair of jeans and a regular t-shirt or two in case the above turns out to be too formal, and to wear when not attending the conference. sneakers.
one "night on the town" outfit that fits what you would like to do (clubbing? nice dinner? shopping? whatever.)
Wear hiking shoes and appropriate urban combat attire. When you say, "what should I pack"? I'd say a .45 Colt...the District of Crime (D.C.) has one of the highest crime stats in the US. Oh, I forgot..they also have the strictest gun control law in the U.S.!
Keep that in the back of your mind.
CB, a friend of mine is going to a conference in dc this weekend as well. we had a long conversation about safety in the city and all that. don't be foolish, but don't be paranoid.
have fun tell us about it in detail when you return.
Don't wear jeans to a business casual affair in D.C.; you'll be conspicuously underdressed. Wear something black, or a color that's solid. Very common business casual attire in D.C.:
- black hose and skirt, with solid colored blouse or sweater set
- black slacks, with solid colored blouse or sweater set
You'll note a trend.
On Saturday, jeans, your college sweatshirt, and sneaks are appropriate and recommended. The most important part - comfortable shoes. You will be hating life by the end of the day if you wear anything else. If you plan on visiting private art galleries or Georgetown, however, you may want to go a tad dressier. Again, think black.
