I'm seriously thinking of changing my ISP to AOL.

Anyone with AOL please tell me if they're good, bad,or indifferent.

I've heard it sucks donkey dick, and that's the bad way, in case you didn't know.

I didn't.

I've seen it done but never fancied it myself.

You don't want to get AOL. The only good thing about it is the chat rooms. Thats the ONLY good thing about it. Not to mention the SLOWNESS and disconnects up the ass...

I've also heard you get spam coming out of your ears... plus, when you log on, you have to read through a dozen pop-up commercials asking if you wanna buy something, but you have to read them to know which button to click in order to say you don't want to buy it.

Yup, Raw is right. Ads out the ass. Including HUGE amounts of spam in your mailbox.

Well I didn't really want to join anyway.

Thank you all.

LOL np. Had it for 2 years just because I liked to talk to people. But now only have AIM.

Just to go against what everyone else has told you. I have AOL and have had it for 2 years now. Almost everyone tells me how bad it sucks. Myself, I have never had any problems with it whatsoever. *Guess I'm lucky that way*
*I don't get huge amounts of spam in my mailbox
*I never get pop up windows (commercials or otherwise)

But, if everyone else is correct....I would take they're word for it.;)

Aol Not in this house! the last time i talked to them i told them to take the three free months they offered me and shove it up their asses...sideways.

oh yes, ditto

Aol is becoming the internet word for Hell.

Speaking of EVIL.. err.. AOL.. AIM has kicked out on me again..

And here I thought you were just trying to impress me with your guttural caveman sounds. Then be all mysterious and vanish.

:D

AOL is also referred to as "BabyNet" due to its simplicity.

The pop-up ads only occur to those who are too dim-witted to select in their preferences to have no pop-ups.

Spam mail is a pain in the ass, but it is no different here than it is on my Hotmail, Yahoo, or Lit accounts.

I went off AOL for a few months and joined again easily. My only reservation is the cost.

Oh yeah--and as far as disconnections go, they are rare for me.

When they do occur, it is usually due to my naughty puppy feasting on the electric cords again.

I agree. AOL isn't all that bad, as long as you don't use it's browser much. The email works well, and it is the best way I've found to read usenet groups. And it takes about 3 clicks to turn off the pop up ads.

Ok

I guess I'm the freak here. I've had AOL for eight years and never experienced anything but great service. If you know how to use your computer and your preferences, you shouldn't have any problems. Maybe it is the "Babynet" because of it's simplicity, but why would you want something difficult?!?

No problems with AOL either. Set it to reduce any unwanted mail, no pop ups and I don't get disconnected either. :)

put me on the positive side for AOL...i get NO popups (really folks, AOL offers loads of options...simply tell them what you want or don't want)

and i get no (and i mean ZERO) spam in my mailbox...none, ditto, zip...

and disconnections are rare too

as a mom, what i really like is the wide range of access levels i can assign to my son's name, and the way you can customize within those levels

AOL?

Assholes On Line.

Just think, you get thrown in with every dipshit who bought a 'puter in the last 4 days and has only figured out how to "boot up" and get onto AOL with the caps lock key pressed!!

Whoopee!

Find cable or DSL service, they all have home pages.

Thanks to all of you who participated, leaving me no nearer
making a decision.

I think I'll stay put for the time being,at least until there's
a broadband available.

Irony,sigh.

I've had AOL ever since it was like 2.0 or 3.0. Now thats a damn long time. And sometimes I would have good streaks of no problems at all, and sometimes I would have streaks of being disconnected or real laggy at times. But I tried getting rid of it when I got @home a couple years ago and they gave me 3 free months and I just never got around to cancel it. Next time I went to cancel it, they gave me 1 free month. Now this time when I went to cancel it, no free months so I said screw it. But ya, I only liked it for the chat rooms anyways.
