No, this is not spam. This is something I found on e-bay when I was thinking of trying out selling e-books there

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-687-Ebook...ps=63&clkid=6988812323601381682&_qi=RTM759771

This is mind blowing. Look in the details and you'll see they have multiple copies of this little gem available.

So......my question is and I'm not being funny, I just don;t see how this is right, isn't this pirating?

The authors of all these books get royalties when these sell on amazon. Now this person is just selling them off and making money.

On that note, what about amazon? They get money on each individual sale this has to be something they wouldn't be thrilled with.

Is this legal? Because there are a lot more auctions like it, I just picked this one because its the most outrageous.

I'm sure I've seen something about this recently, either on FB or on here. From what I remember, this is legal but there are authors protesting and trying to stop it.

Bet you was hoping for some spam huh?

Yeah, along with the review policies and indy treatment in general. If amazon has no interest(which I'm sure they don't) good luck with anything getting done.

Then again they obviously don;t list all the titles and I wonder how many are "mainstream books" and wonder how the big six publishers would feel about this?

Sadly posting this, may just get this guy a sale here:rolleyes:

You know me, always looking out for the chance to make fritters! I hope you got those werewolf chops I left out for you before they fried that whole Lacoste thread. I was sorry to see that one go, that one had crocodile steaks and everything <snerk>.

I did find this article on reselling.

:rose:

It depends on what's on the DVD. I suspect it might be public domain books (ie a rip of the mobi files from project gutenberg) which is legal. They don't say though, so it could be a DVD of pirated works.

The reselling stuff isn't about letting people copy & sell the content, what's sold in the first place isn't the content, but a license to view the content. (Distinctions, distinctions.) The reselling systems being proposed hinge on being able to ascertain whether an individual has a legal license that they can resell. So not applicable in cases of shady ebay DVDs.

As I understand it, you aren't buying anything from Kindle when ordering from Amazon, you are, in essence, buying personal-only access to it. So, if that's true, and this isn't an Amazon deal, then, yes, it would be a case of pirating.

Smashwords Ebook License Notes

I think that Smashwords includes a copyright clause that says you cannot resell an ebook purchased from them...at least that's the impression I got. Have to go back and look at it again. Ebook resales should be different from a paperback or hardback book.

I copied the following from an ebook purchased from Smashwords. Not all books have this printed on the ebook, but they should.

Smashwords Edition License Notes
This ebook is licensed for your personal enjoyment only. This ebook may not be resold
or given away to other people. If you would like to share this book with another
person, please purchase an additional copy for each person you share it with. If you're
reading this book and did not purchase it, or it was not purchased for your use only, then
you should return to Smashwords.com and purchase your own copy. Thank you for
respecting the author's work.

Actually if you go by their style guide they want this in there. I'm surprised they pass books through without it.

i fucking hate amazon...
hey, lc, really liked your stories here on lit...

Seems like it would probably be illegal... BUT they don't list which books are on the DVD. It could be that they're all ex-copyright books. I think the doubt about what books are being sold is what allows the auction to continue without intervention from the eBay mods.

Hey thanks! Just submitted a new one in the mature category "After School Special"

You're far too young to remember the "After School Specials" but trust me they were never like this one.
